Smile Gifted programs in SLC area

We are considering relocating to the SLC area this summer. I've been researching gifted programming in the area. I'm trying to find a great program for my academically gifted daughter that will be starting 9th grade in the fall. Does anyone have any suggestions and experience with these programs and good schools for gifted kids? We will decide where to live based on where we find the best school fit. Thanks in advance for your input!

I'm not holding anything against you for finding the best school for your child, but for some reason I've always hated the term "Gifted"... makes me think the rest of us are "Commoners" or something. LOL

Anyway, there are many private schools around the Salt Lake Valley, many of which have a "gifted kids" program to suit their learning abilities. I'd check the following site out:

It's good to find parents that are determined to get their kids the best education they can. It's hard to find parents that will sit down and read a book to their child in today's world, let alone move to a location based off of the school their child will attend!

Hope it works out for you,

Agoraphobic

Thanks for the reply. I also am not fond of the term "gifted" and the only time you'll hear me use it to describe my daughter is when trying to make sure we find the right program for her. She definitely has different educational needs than my son does. I've already used the link you provided and looked at a lot of the programs and classes both the public and private schools in the area talk about offering. I've also talked with a few of the schools already. I'm hoping someone with some experience with any of the programs will provide some feedback and their thoughts.

Sheepdog, you should seriously consider The Waterford School in Sandy. Two of my kids go there, and we love the school. My son is gifted, which is what got us looking at private schools in the first place, and my daughter is quite bright herself. Waterford has a very flexible program which allows a student to concentrate in areas that they excel in. I cannot imagine a better school than Waterford.

If you have particular questions, feel free to email me.

Look into the International Baccalaureate program at West High School. It is supposed to be a Ivy League launch pad. It is a very competitive program though.
