Hi All,

My fiancé and I are thinking about buying a house in the Salt Lake area in 2009. We are in our mid-20s, and we certainly want to make sure the area is safe. Although we are non-LDS, we really don't mind living around them because most of the LDS people are the sweetest people we've ever met.

Anyways, our first choice was Foxboro in NSL. We loved the houses there since the community is new and private, but the industrial area worries us (thinking about pollution). Then we were thinking about Daybreak in SJ, we haven't physically been there yet, though it may be a bit too far since both of us work very close to SL International Airport, and fiancé's family lives in Northern Utah (we visit often). We are now reconsidering WVC again, we are just not sure about the environment because of the horror stories we've heard.

Our primary preferences for now are to live in a newer house/community, safe environment, and acceptable commute to work (I guess within 30 mins). We are interested in the East side, though we just can't find a newer house around 250k.

We appreciate your opinions and advises in advance.

Most likely, the homes on the east side will be much more than 250K, especially if you are looking for newer construction.

There are some new and newer homes in Bountiful on the west side of I-15. You can also buy some newer homes in West Valley. The further west you go, the nicer it is. Tooele County is very close to the airport and housing costs are lower than in Salt Lake, so you might also want to give that a try. I live in Stansbury Park and can make it to the airport in about 15-20 minutes. Of course, if the weather is bad, it takes a bit longer.

Good luck with your search!

Foxboro is a very nice area. There are the refineries up there, so that smell is something that you would have to get used to. The same goes for any areas in Bountiful and Woods Cross. Woods Cross also has some newer construction and might be worth checking out.
