Can't Upset the Family

This is interesting to me, since I have met several people who absolutely do not want to be removed from the official records of the LDS church, but they do not want anything to do with them ....

It would be very upsetting to older family members (maybe younger ones, too) who still have hope the person might come back to the church. And it is so final a step for some people.

There are actually quite a few people who are no longer practicing members of the Church but who simply don't want to sever the ties completely. I know because three members of my own family are in this position. In every one of these cases, there is still a degree of belief. It's just that the Church seems to get in the way of the kind of social life they want to live.

I know that there is/was the famous *Do Not Visit* Classification.
Would that be another option ?

I've been here 5 months & haven't been visited... I live in a fairly LDS neighborhood, and have an LDS church half a block away. I have a feeling my landlord, who is LDS and lives in the neighborhood may have asked them not to bother me.

The Church has a whole office dedicated to doing nothing other than keeping track of member records. I've actually had calls about a brother-in-law within the last five years who hasn't been active in 20 plus years. If you really don't want to be bothered, you can write and ask that your name be removed from membership rolls.

Uhuh .... funny story here ...
We were living In Switzerland (Job assignment). Lived in the country (meaning out in the boonies), so did not know where the *ward* was ...
So we went to the *big city* and attended church there, for a couple of months !!!
One day this couple visits us, and ask for *our son*. I ask why he wants to know ...
He says, we have the records of this person,
but he never comes to church !!!
Our answer: That is because he is on his mission ... !
needless to say we attended *the wrong ward* ....

They know who in the neighborhood is LDS and who is not and they hit the houses with out LDS living in them.
It's not just you they are after. They are just making rounds.
All you have to do is chain smoke and drink a beer while mowing your lawn on a Sunday and they won't come Near you. This is from experience.

Now that you mention this, I wonder if THAT'S why DH always mows the lawn on Sunday instead...
He doesn't smoke or drink, so doing yard work on Sundays is probably the way he tries to keep the church members at bay. In all fairness, when he has been approached by them, he has always been polite but firm.
After all, this is Utah. Lest I think I could live here and never have that happen...

I have heard that they just didn't bother with the Dad (or his family) who was drinking smoking and working on a Sunday. I guess they figured it would be a lost cause not not receptive to the spiel they were laying down.
The LDS probably doesn't want to waste their time on heathens.
