I think Salt Lake or Davis County would work for you. Although, a single non-LDS person might find more to do in Salt Lake that is closer to them. I would recommend against Utah County and most of the rest of the state as well.

Salt Lake (east side) is your best bet for religious diversity. I have lived in Utah most of my life. I absolutely LOVE the Harvard/Yale area for the fact it is diverse and just has great people - mormons and non. The Sugarhouse mormons always were very open and accepting to nons. I miss Uintah Elementary horribly. Religion was not an issue which was a big difference from when I grew up in the 70s. Salt Lake has grown up a lot. I think every block can be different depending on LDS ratios but seriously, the whole Sugarhouse area feels progressive, liberal and a breath of fresh air. I love Utah!!! We moved to Texas and I so miss Utah!!! Good luck with your move.

Thank you. We have been here now for a month and really do love it. We are in Kaysville, which is so beautiful and so close to everything I need. My neighbors have been great! We have already talked about our faith differences and agreed to not make an issue of them. In fact the LDS kids on the street are over at MY house playing with MY kids!!! It's great! Everybody has been so welcoming and helpful. And did I mention it's soo beautiful!!!

I am very happy to hear that you and your family are doing well in UT.
I just pray and hope to be able to change my wife's mind about moving there. There is no perfect place on this earth and I just wish I could get that in her head. We are the type who love to have a few friends with children so we can et together and all have a good time.
Please say a prayer for me good people of UT!!

Care to share with us the reasons why your better half is not warming up to moving to Utah ?
Maybe we can clarify and make her feel a bit better about what it is really like here.
As you mentioned, you can always find bad things in any place because no place is perfect.

I read the post about finding someplace that was not as much mormon as others in Utah. It's so funny I'm from NY and noone ever asks to find a place that is not as Catholic as another. For the record I'm not Mormon and i"m not Catholic. It is nothing against people of the Mormon faith I know a lot of people that are and they are wonderful, awesome people. I moved to Utah last year and have had a horrible time in my neighborhood. My boss and the women I work with are Mormon and they are awesome but other than work I cannot seem to make friends are get along with anyone. When we pulled up here with our moving van everyone wanted to talk to us but once they found out we weren't going to the church we were treated badly, shunned in the neighborhood, that is not cool and from what I have learned from the Mormons I do know, that is not acceptable. Meanwhile, maybe it is a financial thing, me and my boyfriend work our butts off to have what we do have, but I guess we're not as good cause we don't have as much as everyone else, please help, I'm from NY and I'm such a social and loving person and I'm starting to hate life in Utah, please someone bring me back to a good perspective!

Sure. My brother lives in Layton, UT. His oldest son had an issue where a few LDS children were giving him a hard time at school and around the neighborhood. When push came to shove, he defended himself. My brother had already mentioned the issues with the boys and nothing had been done. Long story short, my nephew is in a Catholic school in Weber now and is doing better. She does not want our boys to go through the same issue. Our boys are use to walking up to others and making friends w/out caring what religion the other children are.
People need to start teaching their children that religion and politics are sensative subjects to other people and should not be a concern for a playmate.

Well, the further out from the actual SLC you get, the less diverse it is. In SLC, there is at best 50/50 LDS/non, so your children have a much better chance of finding friends. My neighbor has a teenage son who has grown up here (not LDS). He seems to have plenty of friends (I've gone to their Halloween parties over the years).

I have posted a few times about moving to SLC. Well, last week we bought a house in Draper. My wife and I got so worked up about LDS v. non-LDS that we were close to paranoia at the restaurants looking at who was drinking Coke and who was drinking water!!!!
So, we decided that we are decent people and will buy where we like and do our best to make friends. We have two little boys (3 and 5) and the oldest will be in Kindergarten at Draper Elementary this fall. Mentally, I guess we have some fall back as Juan Diego is about a mile from our house, so if our children are having a horrible experience, we can try private schools.
We are going into this with open minds and hope all works out. We will be there in early July.
Besides Draper's outdoor pool....is anyone aware of splash parks in the area?

Good for you! With an open mind you and your family should do just fine. Yes, there is a new splash park opening up soon. It is by the Draper Outlets and is called Cowabunga Bay.
Cowabunga Bay
There is also Seven Peaks in Provo and Lagoon Amusement Park has a Lagoon a Beach. Raging Waters in Salt Lake is also an option.
