Are you serious? If I had to live in Magna I'd leave the State of Utah. Sorry to offend, but in all frankness the place is an arm pit (and that is being generous). The guy I work with who lives in a newer area there had constant break in's to his cars. He knows the neighbors kid is in a gang and likely gets the stuff to fence for money to support what they do. Just look around you, and tell me I'm lying? I most certainly would NOT drink the water there as well. I know of at least one gal that had cancer traced back to the cancer causing agents leaked by Kennecott for years to the local water sources there. Come on now lets get real. That is the last place on the planet next toe West Valley city, Glendale and Rose Park I'd consider living, if I cared for my life style I mean. Sheesh.........can I get a reality check on isle 2 please

If you can choose where to live, I'd look seriously at North Davis County in the east bench. East Layton, Fruit Heights, and Farmington are the nicest looking communities. All are located in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains.
Syracuse is only nice if you want to live in the flat area out near the Great Salt Lake. It might be appealing to some, but its not to me.

Thanks markg ! I actually would prefer more of the mountains then the flatter areas. What's Fruit Heights and Farmington about? Are there things to do (shopping, restaurants, that kind of thing)? I'm a stay at home mom, so I would like to be close enough to things to get out and take the kids places.

Well Layton has the mountains and all and is still pretty...But, i don't know what it is but I have just been to better areas I guess. Layton has a mall..But it's fairly small. Farmington is right up the road from me and it is pretty. But not much to do. Honestly from what I've seen of Utah so far, There's just really not anywhere that I've been that hasn't had something that is beautiful. Bountiful is beautiful, I have mountains right out my front door. But like I said it's like 90% LDS. I can live near LDS just fine, They're good people. I can tell it's going to be hard on my girls though. So that's why we are going to move elsewhere.

Oh i don't know, my husband has quite a few friends who grew up in west bountiful as LDS and yet married non lds girls- which is why he was allowed to be IN THE WEDDING PARTY *shocker*.
They had neighbors who they still refer to as good family friends and yet they are LDS. The women spoke to my mother in law about things they would never have with other LDS women because they would have been judged or told to stop. Maybe it is an oppurtunity to show them the real world and how you can have different beliefs and yet still be friends.
But like i said, if you don't want to be bothered with them knocking on your door, the key is to show them you are so hopeless and unwilling to be converted that it is not worth their time.
Smoke and drink on your lawn, do lots of things you shouldn't do on Sundays. They will get the hint.

Or-
You could smile and thank them for asking but say "I am not interested, if you'd like to come over for coffee, that would be great but I am not interested in discussing your church."
just a thought

I grew up in very small towns in SC and GA and even when my husband was in the Air Force, we lived in a small town. So I guess it all depends on what you are used to. We drive to the outlets in Park City to shop and it's not a big deal to us because we always had to drive about an hour to a decent mall...Layton's mall has some good stores but, not big at all. I usually go to Layton to shop just because I don't feel like driving into SLC.
Are you going to come and visit first before just moving out here? I wish I had before we moved here because my husband left for 6 weeks for job training right after we moved and I struggled with the culture shock. And I came from the bible-belt of the country and still struggled. But, mainly because I started researching all the things the LDS believe and it honestly freaked me out and I wanted to leave right away. BUT once the little LDS kids started coming over to play with my daughter and I saw that they drank soda and said things that christian kids wouldn't even say, I realized not all LDS are as perfect as you may think and for some reason I didn't feel like I was going to be judged so harshly for drinking coffee or whatever else we do differently than them. Honestly I feel like the LDS in communities I used to live in when I lived in SC or GA would have been way more strict on their beliefs. These kids listen to secular music and tell me stories about their aunts or cousins that practically live at the bar. Which shocked me. I've heard of LDS that have drank alcohol and only drink occasional wine from time to time now. My point is, They aren't perfect either and once you get past the fear of being judged, it's not so bad. If you want I can give you my phone number and you can call with any questions that you may have. I'd add some photos if I knew how but maybe I can pst them to the profile on here...I'll go and try to do that now.
