Families w/ same sex parents?
Hi everyone. I was just curious how a family with two male parents and no religious affiliation would be viewed in the suburbs of Salt Lake City? Specifically the areas of Draper, Jordan, Cottonwood Heights, and even Park City. Also, are there any areas that have a high concentration of Delta employees (pilots, flight attendents, etc)
Thanks for the help!

They'd be viewed better than other places in the state. Personally, though, if I were in that situation I'd only consider living two places in Utah: 1. Salt Lake City (not county); or 2. Sugarhouse.

Would it really be that bad? We've both grown accustomed to opposing views; I was in the Navy, he a high school teacher. We don't flaunt anything expect our fascination with the outdoors.
What would the general mood be like? Neighbors who simply won't talk to you, or folks that will literally come up and say things to your face?

Most likely the former, if you move into some very conservative suburbs (which is the case for pretty much all of suburban Salt Lake City). As Mark has already said, Salt Lake City proper (Downtown and maybe the lower Avenues) and Sugarhouse are your best bets.

The Marmalade District (near the Capitol) is known as having a lot of GLBT residents. Sugar House is pretty accepting: on my block we have 1 lesbian couple, a single lesbian, and there used to be another lesbian couple until they moved. There is a new gay man at the end of the block. No one even blinks these days.

Marmalade, Sugarhouse, Foothill, Harvard/Yale, Emigration Canyon, Avenues, pretty much anywhere else in SL City, Park City. Draper and Jordan? I don't know those areas well but they would definitely not be the first places I'd think of.

Delta Employees
I have lived in Utah all of my 65 years and of course there is a prejudice against gays (not surprising in the redest of red states) however with the evolution of the population, people that know the world is not flat, I don't think it a big issue just stay away from the most conservitive areas like Utah County.
My wife is a Northwest, oops, New Delta FA two neighbors are Delta pilots
one AMR pilot and a SWA pilot. I live in Midway which is about 10 miles south of Park City (one hour commute to SLC) in a PUD. I'm the token native and mormon living full time in the neighborhood, ( proudly not practicing) But this is an open-minded community.
Park City is a meca for not only Delta employees but all other airlines are well represented there.
There are some great realestate deals in Midway. so check it out and good luck with the move.

Check out this thread, as I think most of the discussion applies equally to same-sex parents:

Actually, Daybreak might be another choice. I know of a lesbian couple who live there with their children and at least one ex-husbnad nearby (for the children). They seem to be happy there.

Park City is Delta "Central". (ever see all the Georgia license plates there?).
Additionally, my former boss (when I worked up at the U) was a gay woman who lived with her significant other and her two children. In Sandy.
Yes, Sandy.
There are gay folks all over the SL Valley. Even Sandy.
