Thumbs up New - and Looser- liquor Laws

Gov. Huntsman signed the new liquor law today. No more private clubs starting in July. And the Zion Curtain (little wall preventing bartenders from serving over the counter) will go away but new clubs will have to build separate rooms to prepare alcoholic drinnks. Seems stupid to me but I guess that's the compromise they had to make.

To me this is like one step forward, and a giant leap backwards. I rarely drink out anymore since moving here, so I guess its not such a huge deal for me. I do miss happy hours though, since moving here.

I remember reading some quote from a mother in an article leading up to this decision, who said that her children were "bombarded" by alcohol in restaurants, and the maraschino cherries and blenders were too tempting to children.

Oh good grief... I wonder if she ever shops for underwear for her children? Heaven knows what could enter their minds then.

And maybe no need to go to a store for underwear related incidents forming a possible wrong impression, the Mountain will come to Mohammed so to speak in that the looser liquor laws will cause more people to walk around in their skivvies or maybe even less...LOL...

One silver lining in this legislative cloud (cloud being my opinion based on a variety of of sub-problems this law could lead to) is Utah is now open for Bar related jokes. I'm surprised the comedians are not already on it.

A (place your combination of characters here) walk into a bar....

Never thought of that interesting twist. Oh wait, they wouldn't need to pour it into a Grey Goose bottle. They could just charge the patron for the Grey Goose and serve Popov.

Yeah, and pretty soon the lingerie section at a department store will have to be behind concrete walls as well.

Too bad parents don't parent their children and teach them right from wrong rather than just hiding it from them. Yeah, that'll prepare them for the real world when they grow up and move out.

Heard on the news tonight that there might be a lawsuit over the new requirement for new restaurants to have a separate room for mixing alcohol.
