Sugar hood is iffy, Sugar House itself is still good. Most people don't rally know where the Sugar House boundaries are.

From Wikipedia:
Sugar House is located roughly from about 700 East at its western edge to 2000 East at the east and 1300 South to about 2700 South north to south, and is largely within the boundaries of Salt Lake City. In recent years a number of sources have inexplicably expanded the boundaries of Sugar House to include areas that have never been known as such; the boundaries being listed as far north as 1300 South, as far south as 3300 South., and even listing Sugar House going as far as 200 East. Many local businesses, although not strictly located within the bounds of Sugar House, use the name because of the area's name recognition. For similar reasons others use the designation to describe the location of their own homes, because there was otherwise no neighborhood designation to use.

I personally don't think of Sugar house as extending to the west beyond 900 East, ertainly not to 700 East.

South Salt Lake
Central Salt Lake City and near West Side

Residents of those areas will likely be offended by my suggestion to stay away from there. However percentage wise they have the highest reported crime rates in general. Just the facts that can't be argued with. Crime to some extent is everywhere of course. Just mentioned the worst of the worst. Good luck with the move
Last year I read that the ZIP code with the highest per capita rape, assault, and attempted murder reports was 84103=the Avenues. So the list above might reflect property crime (which makes sense given the source is related to a security business) but is not reflective of violent crime or crime as a whole.

That said, I was a 911 operator for a time, and in my completely unscientific tracking, I would say crime as a whole is the worst in South Sale Lake, parts of Kearns, parts of WVC, and parts of Glendale. I think Taylorsville, Sugar House, West Jordan, and Central SLC are fine.

Thanks to everyone for your input. This really helps me narrow down the areas we are looking in.
