Default Commute to Ogden from SLC?

I am looking at a lot of job opportunities in Ogden, but I really want to live in Salt Lake City. Is this too much of a commute? Are the highways congested so a 40 minute drive on a map takes 2 hours? Maybe there is a happy medium somewhere? I'd like to be relatively close to the U so I'll be around more people my age (25) but not too far that its a drag to drive to work, plus with gas at 3 dollars a gallon, that changes the pay scale a bit. Anyone out there that makes this commute daily?

Well there is some good news. The Utah Transit Authority is opening a commuter rail line that will go from Salt Lake to Ogden later this year. It is called FrontRunner. So that would be a good option for you.

Also, you would be doing a reverse commute if you chose to drive. I've had to go up there a couple of times in the mornings, and the traffic is not bad at all. Going the other way it is terrible though.

FYI, commuter rail isn't scheduled to begin until next year.

There are a multitude of options between Ogden and SLC. Homes are definitely cheaper north of SLC. I grew up in North Ogden (loved it as a teen), but living in SLC during college and for my career is fantastic! There is a ton of I-15 construction going on in Ogden right now. My grandfather made the trip to his job in SLC from Ogden every day for like 20 years and didn't seem to mind. I personally enjoy my 5 minute commute to the U.
