Default Grantsville questions.

Okay, we just found out we are moving my husband's job to Dugway. I've been really looking at Stansbury, but have noticed it is incredibly expensive versus Tucson (where we currently live). However, Grantsville seems to have tons and tons of gorgeous houses (with granite, flooring, upgrades upgrades) for significantly less. Also, lots of short sales. Could someone tell me what is going on? Is it not a nice place to live? Did something happen? How far away is Grantsville from civilization? Why is it that much cheaper than Stansbury? Thank you!

I live in Stansbury and love it here. Grantsville is more small townish/rural as opposed to the more suburban Stansbury. Grantsville is a nice place to live, but you have families that have lived there for.ev.er (like generations!!). It is sometimes hard to fit in there. Most homes there were built by builders on speculation at the height of the boom. People then decided that they didn't want to commute as far to their jobs in Salt Lake (it is a bit longer of a commute than from Stansbury) or the builders went under when the homes started to sit on the market. There are a bunch of great deals to be had out that way if you like the rural feeling. I would never call Grantsville a bad place to live, it just might not be what you are used to, especially coming from Tucson.
Stansbury's prices have come down a bunch and really, the prices might not be "as good" as what you could be getting in Grantsville, but the atmosphere is like night and day. I am not sure where in Stansbury you were looking or what your price range/housing requirements are. The prices right on the lake are a bit higher than in other parts of Stansbury.

Grantsville is about 15 minutes or so from Tooele. That is about the same distance as Stansbury is from Tooele. However, it is closer to drive from Stansbury into Salt Lake than it is from Grantsville. Being that your husband will be working in Dugway and not Salt Lake, that might not matter much to you.

Salt Lake as a whole seems more expensive than where a lot of people come from - me included. I had sticker shock when I moved here. Check out prices in the Avenues or Sugar House to see if those prices aren't higher than what you'd expect.

I like Grantsville and would be willing to live there. But it does have an abnormally high cancer rate according to the Tooele county rumor mill...

Am I correct in assuming that there is a bus that takes workers to the Dugway area ?
If so, then find out what the route of that bus is and then decide where you want your abode to reside.

I notice how much you post, and I'd like to thank you so much for being so informative to us all! It is a hard decision to decide between Stansbury, for the joy of a neighborhood for my son...or, a plush house to grow up in! We are looking for the $300K range. But, here, in Tucson, you get 2000 sqft, gourmet kitchen, with SS appliances, upgraded cabinets, a mountain view, maybe a pool, 3 car garage, covered porches...just everything. I guess I was expecting the same, due to the housing slump and it being a small town. I thought wrong!) So, I think I will have to give some of my luxury up! I really am tempted though, since the community seems so nice, in comparison to Grantsville.

Southernbelle! I'm originally from the South, too!o)

Awww. Thank you. How nice of you to say. Some people that have been on here might not agree with you, however.
I don't think you would have any trouble finding the type of home that you would want in Stansbury in that price range. I am posting at work now, but when I get home later this afternoon, I will see what I can find.
Thanks again for your kind words!

Ugh, I read those stupid posts. I was really scared about the move, but you have written a lot of stuff that has kept me positive. You have really put a lot of information out there for people! And, some of us don't have any clues what to expect, and you make me feel like I can at least ask and get an answer.

While, I gotcha....is Stansbury considered safer from the chemicals? A lot of my husband's employees want to quit just because of the rumors about Tooele.

Ok. This is just my humble opinion okay. I am not looking for a religious debate or to stir up trouble. I honestly don't know if Stansbury is safer. I have never given it a thought. Want to know why? Because I feel that we are all put on this earth for a certain amount of time. There are people who live their lives very recklessly and live to be 100. There are people that die very young from numerous reasons. No one knows how or when our time will be up. I feel that we need to live our lives doing what makes us happy and where it makes us happy.
Again, not intended to stir up trouble or cause any debates about this. I am answering the question just how *I* feel.

Here are some homes in Stansbury

So, you can see that there are quite a few homes that fit your parameters. Those are only the ones listed on the MLS, not even for sale by owner ones. I just guessed at the amount of bedrooms/baths you were looking for. If you are a member of Facebook, Stansbury's community is listed on there.
