Default Relo to Salt Lake- Need Info

Hi! My husband has the possibility of being relocated to the SLC area for his job. We currently live in Nashville (been here 4 yrs) and orginally from California. We have 4 children: 16,11,10, newborn. Looking for information on the area, where family friendly neighborhoods with good schools are, cost of living, etc. Also just curious if there are many churches that are not LDS. The church we attend here is Southern Baptist, so just curious if there is anything similar to that out there. Thanks for any help and advice!

According to the "about" pages in the phone book, SLC has over 80 different faiths represented here.

What would be your range for renting or buying? Where will the job be? Traffic can be bad at times, hoiw long a commute can he tolerate? This will help us better answer your questions. Most of the valley is family-friendly.

With regards to the churches in the Salt Lake City area, there are over 70 different denonimations listed in the Salt Lake phone book, among them ten or twelve Southern Baptist congregations. You should be okay on that count. I'll leave it to someone else to address your other questions.

Thank you for the church information! Sounds like there is quite a selection in the area Relo wouldn't be until next year probably, I believe that the work location would be in the SLC metro area- in the heart of the city or close by. As far as commute times, I would say one way 30-45 minutes, but the shorter the better. Prices for housing would be in the $1,000-1,500 range each month. Thanks for any additional information you can help with.

You should easily be able to find a place with a commute time of 30 minutes or less. I've been out of the loop in terms of housing prices for so long that I can't be of much use to you there. Maybe you could give us a little more info on the kind of neighborhood you're hoping to find.

You can pretty much anywhere in the metro area and large parts of the suburbs in under 30 minutes. My biggest recommendation would be to live on the east side of the valley. There is great freeway access to downtown there and it is great for families.

Thank you to all that responded and offered help. Again not sure if we will be relo'd to SLC, but just wanted to get some information early in case we do. I'll be checking in on this forum to keep up to date on the area. Thanks again
