Default Houses for Rent in the Salt Lake City Area?

My husband and I are looking for a house to rent. We are trying to find something in Salt Lake City, the closer to downtown the better. We have several months to find something, we aren't in a rush, so we haven't talked to a real estate agent yet. But I have been looking around on line just to see if I can find anything that looks good. Currently we are in Draper, but we would like to be in the city. I am from Jacksonville, FL and my husband is from Brooklyn, NY, we just both love the city.

We are pretty new to Utah so we don't know too much about the different cities and neighborhoods, except for Draper and Suncrest. Again though, we really want to be in SLC. We aren't too picky, but there are a few things that are important to us. First, we need to be pretty close to a good elementary school. Second, we have to be in an area that doesn't have dog breed bans or restrictions. Also, we don't want to be in an area with a very high crime rate, but, from what I have read and heard, Utah over-all seems to have a much lower crime rate than the places we have lived anyway, so at this point, neither of us have been too worried about that. However, we know there is crime anywhere you go, and just like anyone else, we want to be safe.

So, with all of that being said, we are looking for a 3 bed, 2 bath home, again, the closer to downtown SLC the better, to rent. Like I said, we are looking around on line ourselves. My parents, who moved from FL to Draper a few years ago are also helping us look. And again, we aren't in a huge hurry to find a place, I am just starting to look around. It's just that I haven't been able to find much on line. So, if anyone knows of any good websites that would be helpful, or anything like that, please let me know. Also, if you know of any neighborhoods that seem like they fit what we are looking for, or if there are any specific areas/neighborhoods that you would recommend, please let me know. As I said, we don't know much about SLC, so any help would be wonderful! Thanks!

The city of Salt Lake doesn't have any BSL. You can have 2 dogs. In the unincorporated area of SL county, you can have 3 dogs if one is a rescue. I think Sugar House is nice 'cause I live there! Smaller houses, people can't sell so are renting out. Close to downtown and good schools. Low crime.

I'm sure there are other areas but that is the one I know first-hand. Have you checked on Craig's List?

There is a large home for rent on 700 South, just east of 300 East. It's actually larger than you're looking for (5 bed and 4 bath, I think), but if I recall, portions of it are "mother-in-law" style and could be rented out to others quite easily. The home is known as the Iverson Mansion, and I don't think it's listed anywhere online, but drive by and there is a "Take-a-Flyer" there with all the info.

I live a couple blocks away and really love the area. Central City is one of the only areas of SLC that really feels like "the city" to me; it's close to everything, very affordable, and very dog friendly. I actually have 3 dogs there (though SoBelle is correct---the limit is technically 2), and my neighbors have two pit bulls, too.

If that Iverson home is too big and/or out of your price range, consider driving around the neighborhood. 700 South, 800 South, 500 East, 600 East, Park Street, Green Street.... I see "For Rent" signs pop up all the time. Though you're not in a hurry, I'd look sooner rather than later as this area is popular with U students with pets (since dorms don't allow pets) and fall semester starts in 3 weeks, so the students are starting to move in.
