Default Downtown SLC Construction

I've been looking at many pictures online of the Salt Lake City area and just about every SLC pic I've seen has street work going on, especially downtown. What's up with all the construction?

The LDS church has embarked on a $10 billion renovation called City Creek. The project is also called Downtown Rising now. They are building an integrated shopping, office, residential and ?hotel complex over many blocks. It is probably the largest privately developed project going on now, maybe ever. What I can see looks spectacular. The church didn't want the area around their temple to become run-down.

There are a number of things going on downtown, many of which are involved with or influenced by the "downtown rising" organization. The City Creek Center project itself is an independent project, and the actual budget is more like $2.5 billion. It's a mix of things on 16 acres, 3 blocks, with residential, retail, and a little bit of office space. Two towers are being built at the moment, with plans for another suspended right now, due to the economy. However, most of the project will happen as originally planned, and is proving to be very beneficial for SLC.

On Main St. there is a 22-story building, which just had its facade recently completed and will be opening in November.
