Which is just Utah shorthand/lingo for no smoking/drinking...apartments in other states ask that too. They just word it no smoking or drinking. If I were renting out a house or apartment I would certainly require no smoking or drinking and I am not LDS.

I love Utah and think it's the most beautiful place I ever lived. I still go every chance I get.
LDS people are just like everyone else. There's both good and bad members of every religion.
People haven't talked about taxes much. I'll tell you I LOVED the food tax. Not because I had to pay it but because for once there was a tax that was fair. People who used the most, paid the most. I've always believed everyone should pay, but the people who use the system should pay more.

My house, my rules. They don't like it, they don't rent from me. Simple as that.

The listings in Utah, do state, specifically, no smoking, drinking, etc. So it appears as a Utah (close by) phenomenon. I still don't know how a landlord can enforce this, sounds discriminating to me.

Thanks for the info on this lingo..I would love to have a place with no smoking. It makes the building so much cleaner, and that whole no carcinogens floating through the air thing is good stuff.

It is not unique to Utah to prohibit drinking on rental property. I used to live in a dry town in Illinois and most apartments then prohibited drinking and smoking.

This thread had gotten way off topic. Please take your arguments about smoking/drinking/landlord/tennant rights to the Political forum. Take concerns about smoking/not smoking/being around smoke to the Health and Wellness forum.

I think it's more lingo for 'We're looking for people who are LDS'. If they want no drinking or smoking then they'd just say that, and many ads do. LDS Standards usually also means no opposite sex spending the night.

So if we need to attract more bars to achieve this purpose, let's do it.

 well said!

See above. Even if you and your family don't go out bar hopping, we all benefit from this.

This kind of cr@p is mostly found in Provo and near BYU, but not so much in SLC.

Smoking I understand and agree, but drinking - why?, that's nuts! Moderator cut: off topic
