Places to look for a job in IT
I have been trying to move back to Utah for a few months now and seem to be having trouble getting a job there. I have daily emails from headhunters for Cisco and Network Security jobs in AZ but I can't seem to get any realistic bites in Utah. All of these news articles say that Utah is the best place to find work in IT... Where are the jobs? It's not that I haven't had offers, there are some but they want to pay a ccnp $19 an hour when anywhere else would pay $95k a year.. Anyone know of a decent place to look? I have tried Dice, Career Builder, Monster, and even Craigslist.

UT has historically had low wages comparitively speaking. Try KSLTV.com for classifieds.

Sorry, maybe I was wrong about that. go to www.utah.gov and look for the Dept of Work Force Services site. They list a lot of jobs in different categories. Many larger companies have to post there so they don't seem to have nepotism.

Try Qwest, UHC, U of U, ISP's, LECs, all the banks and hospitals.
Salaries are low in Utah. It's a great place to live. Good weather and lots to do. They can pay less because people want to live there. I lived in UT for about 12 years. I finally left to make more money.
95K for a CCNP? Where? With the economy as bad as it is, I'd be taking that job unless it was someplace like North Dakota.
Good luck!

Is your resume up to date and posted on Dice and Monster? I'm a software developer and that's how I get bites.
But, to reiterate some of stigmas associated with the Utah IT market, they don't pay well. I think it's because so many people just really want to stay in the valley because of family. You won't get a salary comparable to other places (i.e. Phoenix, Dallas, Denver, etc.) and so I wouldn't expect it.
Also, companies are tightening their belt all over the U.S. and aren't as willing to consider people out of state. I've been trying to get bites in Phoenix and Dallas but haven't gotten anything. Maybe I just don't have enough experience, but I've heard others having similar experiences.
One last thing to keep in mind: Utah housing prices are very high, especially when compared to salaries. That's one of the main reason we're looking to leave.

95K doing IT??? Maybe I should trade in my graduate degree.... After moving back down here, I usually find that Utah salaries are HIGHER than in Florida.
