I also am moving from out of state. Do you know how much the safety inspection is?

17.00 for the safety inspection. If you live in Salt Lake, Davis, or Utah County, you will also need an emissions certificate. That might also include Weber County? I don't live there, so I am not sure how much they run nowadays.

When moving to Utah, do you have to take a driving test to get a license there?

Not if you have been licensed in another state. You will just need to take an easy peasy written test...open book, no less!

I think that if you already have a DL issued from another state, there is no driving test required. CDL may be another thing and i know that you will have to make an appointment for that. My child just took the written test for the driving permit and everything went smoothly-and the people at the Fairgrounds location DMV could not have been nicer!

I had to take a written test when I moved here 8 yrs ago. I got a booklet, the test was easy, and I didn't have to do the driving portion. My license from the other state was still good.

Yes, you have to take a written test, even if you have a DL from another state. But like kaytidid said, its open book.

I just registered as well at the new DMV in Draper. In and out in less than 10 minutes! It was AWESOME!! If your car is an odd year model, you have to get the emissions/safety thing. If your auto is an even year, you don't. (I assume the state flip flops this ever year but I am not sure) For my 2003 Toyota 4runner, I paid $150.50. My drivers license was $25.00. You do NOT have to have a Utah license to register your car. I registered before I got my license.
