North Salt Lake is right in the thick of the industrial area. Woods Cross not as much - it's right by Bountiful - there's really no break between the two to really tell the difference. About the west side of of the Salt Lake valley and transportation. They have light rail currently being built all over there, as well as a future freeway that will run right through the west side. (Mountain View Corridor)

My 2 cents--We moved here from out of state about a year ago. I too, was looking for that perfect place to live and for good schools for my kids. Jordan Ridge Elementary and South Jordan Middle School (both in South Jordan)are rated 10's on greatschools.net--nice if you want to send your kids to a good PUBLIC school.
The trax are being put in right now, I'm unsure of completion date, but will service West Jordan/South Jordan all the way downtown, which would get your husband a ride downtown without fighting traffic each day. However, if he plans to drive downtown to work each day rather than ride the trax, it probably is not worth living so far south, unless he doesn't mind the traffic or >45 min commute. From West Jordan I always allow 45 minutes to get downtown, just in case, and sometimes during rush hour you could be looking at a longer commute, during non-rush hour you could probably make it in 30 min. It all depends on the time of day he is driving AND how far the home you find is from I-15. If you can plan your work hours to avoid rush hour, the commute from the west side is not as rough. I find the traffic gets thick around 3pm and lasts until 7pm.
Good Luck!

That's a good point. According to UTA's project overview page for the Mid-Jordan Trax line, the expected completion date is 2011-2012. The project started in May 2008 and as of May 2009 was 30% complete. I'm excited for the project to get finished so all of us "southwesterners" in Salt Lake County have an alternate way to fight all the traffic on the west side.

Murray!
Murray is a great area. It's fairly spread out with great neighborhoods throughout. Great schools in the Murray School District and a few schools in the Murray boundaries are in the Granite School District (Cottonwood High). Close access to the I-15 and 215, great tax base with lots of commercial revenue. If you are commuting to downtown SLC for work, it's an ideal location.
Great amenities for residents including excellent fire and police services, fantastic parks, rec center, etc....
Murray has been an actual city for much longer than many of the other areas of the valley that have only recently been incorporated, so they aren't experiencing many of the budget pains and growth pains that newly incorporated cities are feeling, and it shows in the services they provide to their residents.
You can find exclusive areas in Murray and average middle class suburban areas. If you are looking for under $300k, you should be able to find a nice home east of State Street for that price fairly easily.
We've been in Murray for a year and a half and wouldn't live anywhere else in the valley.

So how long would the commute be from S. Jordan when the Trax is complete (riding the trax that is)?
I've been looking online, and I haven't found much in our price range in Murray that I would be willing to buy. Maybe it's just a bad time of year to be looking.

With the stops and all - maybe 45 minutes? That's my rough estimate. What's the commute from Sandy on Trax? It'd probably be about 10-15 more minutes than that.
