Wedding in SLC
I recently became engaged and will be getting married in SLC, where all of my family is. I'm looking for any outside of the box venue ideas. We want something laid back - like a backyard BBQ w/bluegrass. I'd like something up one of the canyon's and think somewhere like the back of Ruth's Diner would be perfect. I love Log Haven - but I think that is a bit too formal. Does anyone have any ideas? I also love Snowbird and Solitude, but I think they are outrageously overpriced.
The venue must also allow alcohol.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

WHEN the wedding is makes a big difference in WHERE it can be.

April and May nights can be a bit chilly. Otherwise, any outdoor venue would work. Why not ask your family what they would prefer?

If you want to get married in the summer months, you might consider a wedding at Redman Campground in Big Cottonwood Canyon east of Salt Lake. Its the canyon you drive up to go to Solitude and Brighton Ski Resorts. The campground is just down the canyon from Silver Lake and the Silver Lake Picnic Area. I went to a wedding once at Redman Campground and I thought it was a really beautiful place.

Great idea - thanks markg. A friend of mine was married at the Spruces campground up there and while I wasn't able to make it - the pictures looked beautiful! I love that idea - thanks!
Any other ideas out there?

International Peace Garden in town? Don't know about the alcohol though.

Memorial House, Salt Lake City, Utah (UT) - Wedding Venue, Resort/Retreat
It is difficult to judge from your post, how much money you want to spend, what exactly you want, I have been to several weddings at City Creek Canyon, they have a beautiful hall/chapel there.
There is also Red Butte Gardens, by University of Utah.
If you want to go very informal and inexpensive, there is Canyon Rim Park, Millcreek area.

Salt Lake City Weddings - Rose Sachs Gardens - jardines de Rose Sachs sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Their website makes it look more formal than it really is---you should visit and see for yourself. It's up Parley's and is very natural and beautiful.
Also, Alta has one lodge with an outdoor area where a friend was married last year in October. She said it was much less expensive than the other resorts, and even less expensive than other Alta venues. I can't remember which one it was, but I'm sure Alta can tell you what their least expensive wedding area is.

I still don't have a budget - but would like to keep it simple and inexpensive. For me the most important part of the day is having all of my loved ones together for a really great time!
I will have to check out the International Peace Garden - didn't even think of that. I also love the idea of City Creek Canyon, Alta, or Canyon Rim Park.
I LOVE Red Butte (volunteered there for a few years) - and Rose Sachs. Will just have to check the budget.
All fantastic suggestions that I hadn't thought of - thanks so much. We just became engaged this past weekend, so I am just scoping it out. Hard to plan a wedding 2000 miles away!
Thanks!
