Default Advice on where to live in the SLC area...

My husband has accepted a new job and we will be relocating to SLC at the end of November. We currently live in Knoxville, TN and we need advice about where to live. We are not LDS and a professional couple in our 30's. My husband will be working in the Lindon area and I want to be closer to the city and the university etc.

Can anyone recommend a good place for us to look... I don't want my husband to have too long of a commute, however, we both want to be close to the city and the airport etc. What are the good areas in between that are friendly and open towards Non-LDS.

We are really excited and cannot wait to move to Utah!

thanks

Congratulations on your move! I would check out the Avenue and Harvard/Yale if you want to be nearest the U of U and airport. Small lots with close neighbors but lots of historic charm. The Mr is going to have quite a drive down to Lindon but he will be going the opposite direction of most commuters. Utah County may not be the desired place of residence since you are not LDS.
Good luck and welcome...

I would look in the south valley area (Draper, Riverton, South Jordan, Bluffdale, Herriman area), right in between downtown and Lindon.

Some other things to keep in mind:

Utah valley is very "mormony" if that bothers you and has the highest LDS concentration in the state.

The point of the mountain between SL and UT counties makes for a hellacious commute, especially in winter.

Just my thoughts...

I'd stick around the area - maybe look around Orem or Lehi. The LDS population is higher there, but it's pretty high everywhere. You guys could add some more diversity Draper, Riverton, South Jordan, etc. as mentioned above would be relatively close as well, though all would be about 20-30 minutes from the airport or University. If not the commute will be pretty long. With the snow and basically only one freeway in Utah, commutes can be a hassle.
