Well, after all the hype over this new provider of hamburgers bringing several new locations to our burger loving State, I just had to subject myself to the line and wait just to see what this was all about. Was this the hamburger and fries to take the top awards away from our beloved Crown Burger or Apollo Burger? Or outdo Smashburger, Sonic and all the others? Was all this talk about keeping it fresh, handcutting the fries and their handmade shakes going to reinvent the hamburgers of Utah?

My conclusion is a resounding "NOPE". The burger was "ok", not a big deal, the bun was by NO means anything special. The flavor overall wasn't anything earth shattering nor unusual for a flat grilled burger (which quite frankly I do NOT favor for flavor). OK so the fries were pretty darn good, but honestly, I'll take the crisp on the outside, tender on the inside uncoated unmessed with Crown or Apollo Burger fries any day of the week over these. Frankly the fries at Chic Fil A are better tasting as they use genuine Peanut Oil, the finest there is for fries (the Europeans have known this for decades). I personally prefer the flavor of the Crown burger anyday. So is IN N Out a complete waste of time?

Well, I will give them ONE thing, their shakes are OUTSTANDING no question about it. Much better tasting than say Iceberg, a bit of a legend around here. The prices of the IN N Out product is indeed a bit lower, which will endear some to the place. But IMHO it is indeed a fair amount of hype, which I'll be willing to bet, once the bloom is off the rose, their business and popularity here in Utah will die down to a more realistic level. Others may argue, but if we are going only on taste, they don't make a terribly special product IMHO. If you like it fine. I'll stick to Crown and Apollo thanks.

Like I stated in another post series.
For some of us who grew up with certain *icons*, it is a nostalgic thing.
I even have a collection of their glasses and T-shirts ...
Having been at every In'n out urge, I found that there is a taste difference at different locations.
Other than that, it was a *hangout* for most of *us-Ex-Californians*, nothing more, nothing less.
In my case, we have not even gone yet to any of them here.
If I have to wait for *fast food* that long .....
I may be stupid, but I am not dumb enough to wait that long for something to eat !!!

If anybody wants to discuss/argue about better taste from this place or that place, then I will ask for the the answer of *What does chocolate taste like* ?

Burgers, I prefer the charcoal cooked ones.
French fries, I only prefer the ones that are skinny,
I hate those big *house fries*.
Now get this ... I said *Prefer* !!

My wife claims, I make a better one at home then anywhere else ...
And ... I use that crazy George Foreman grill ....
Go figure ....
BTW, I cook French Fries in fat that has been gleaned from cooking Bacon .. You should try it.

LBNL, if you like a taste of *French Fries* (only called as such here in the USA) the only way they should taste, go to that Belgian place near down town SLC. He knows how to cook them the right way.

And I'm betting the Belgian guy uses pure Peanut Oil as it should be. I was first introduced to this method of cooking "Pom Frittes" as they are referred to over there, when I had a diamond buying trip to Antwerp Belgium back in 1991 when I was sent over there by an employer. The food there is other worldly literally. All cooked by scratch methods with REAL stuff, like pure butter, cream and Peanut Oil and chocolate you only WISH you could taste over here. Believe me even Chocolate is completely different there than here. I got a basket of Pom Frittes (french fries) that were long and thin (like you like them) which came nice and hot and crispy. Man that was some good eating. The only other time I had them that way was home cooked in peanut oil in our fry daddy cut by hand. Sorry, don't do anything having anything to do with pig (bacon of course included). I keep Kosher

I agree. We have lots of In N Out Burger places here in California and I don't see what's so special about them. The food is just OK, but I have been to other burger places that are much, much better.

I haven't been in Utah in years. Do they still have Hardees there?

OK, so I can now save myself the long drive to Draper. I love Crown Burgers so I can get my burger fix close by.

i have been thinking about it, but every time i pass by, there is a line of 30 cars stretching all the way through the strip mall area, and the line of people goes out the door.

waaaaaaay too much hype, in my opinion.

yes, sadly, hardees went the way of the dodo in utah; it transformed after a long hiatus, into carls junior.

hardees exists back east still, but they have raised their prices to the same ridiculous rate that carls junior is at here.

Don't jump on me for saying this, but I miss Jack in the Box. I had a real thing for their taco's. and I don't even like tacos locally. It was just something unique about them. Oh well. They had to leave the state to avoid law suits when that kid died from having eaten one of their burgers back with the E Coli scares and all. Whenever I'm near one, like up in Idaho I just have to get my Taco fix there ;-)

Didnt Hardees and Carls Jr merge or someone bought the other out? Except for the guacamole burger. I dont remember much difference between the two.

Hardees and Carls Jr are owned by the same company Hardee's - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I from Oregon and we have Carl Jrs and on a trip to Atlanta I saw Hardees and they all were identical to Carl Jr.
