Does anyone know how is the air in Huntsville/ Eden in the wintertime? Do they get the air inversion? Are the winters long and harsh? We are thinking of relocating?

HI there...
I am pretty sure it is better then the Salt Lake Valley. I live in Layton (west of the Wasatch mountains from Huntsville...and a bit higher in elevation)...and I have stinky polluted air about 1/3 less days then SLC does. Now...you will have inversions...those are inescapable in the winter in the Great Basin...but what you don't have is the pollution sources that the SL Valley has (i.e. about a million cars and lots of refineries). So while the inversion will be there...you will have more days without burning eyes and sneezing. It's a beautiful area...we almost bought a house there....but the commute was a little longer then I wanted. Plus we bought right before the Wasatch front housing prices skyrocketed. You will love Huntsville...its scenic and quiet. |

Usually the higher the altitude, the less there is of inversion. So Park City is clear and beautiful all winter long while SLC is not. I'm thinking Huntsville is higher since they have Snowbasin, but I'm not sure of the exact altitude.
It sure is gorgeous there. The summers just can't be beat! |

Obviously you're getting different answers, but we own property in Ogden Valley (Liberty) and love to take our kids to Wolf Mountain to ski. We actually go there to escape the inversion when it settles in on the Salt Lake valley.

I actually live in Eden and grew up in the Ogden Valley. We do not get inversion, it is so nice. When we go down Ogden Canyon in the winter it is suprising how bad the inversion is below while we have blue skies. We do get moisture off the lake in early winter as the reservoir begins to freeze but it clears out quickly, once the sun comes up. Hope this helps...

In the winter, high pressure traps cold air in the valleys. The air then becomes extremely stagnent and the pollution just builds up for a week or two until low pressure finally scours it out.
