Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority - student loans.

My daughter is a soldier overseas and the payments are made online the last day of the month as military pay day is the 1st.

She wants to make 'principal only' payments this year while overseas since she's getting some extra pay.

UHEAA won't let you do this online and according to all the fine print you can't even mail it to the regular payment address....it must be mailed to a special address w/ ATTN Manager of Operational Accounting on the envelope. Plus, the fine print further says that all payments will be applied to interest first and then principal unless there are specific instructions.

Well, a note attached to the check w/ "principal only", and the check had "principal only" written on it in three places, including right beside the UHEAA account number. "Account# ###### Principal Only Payment"

But of course, they didn't follow the specific instructions written on the attached note or 3 times on the check...they took out interest.

So, UHEAA is being sneaky as what they've 'said' isn't accurate.

How do you make a principal only payment to them? Does anyone have a specific address and/or person these checks should go to?

UHEAA claims that there cannot EVER be a principal only payment because this is a 'federal' loan.

Anyone?

So there is no such thing as a 'principal only' payment for a federal loan?

I think the lack of response means that no one knows the answer to your question. I certainly don't, sorry.
