Hi everyone!

I am moving to SLC next month! I am a single women in her late 20s, catholic. I will work in the U of U area (University Hospital) and I would like to live someplace close to it. I would like to rent an apartment (700$ -1000$). I heard pretty good things about the AVenues and Sugarhouse. The problem is that I will not have a car during the first two months, so I would like a place near public transportation

I would like your opinion about the Brigham Apartments and Emigration Court. Are they save enough for a single women? Are the surrounding areas save at night?

Please if you now any other complex apartments close to the University Hospital please let me know , any suggestion will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks

Going strictly by the location, you can rest assured that they'd be safe. I have no first-hand knowledge of either of them. I just know that when the Brigham Apartments first opened and I used to drive by them every day, I thought, "Hmmm. Big bucks to rent there." Have you checked to see if they are within your price range? They both look to be over $1000 per month. At any rate, they would either one probably be a good choice if you can afford them. If you can't get in for under $1000 per month, stick to that area and you'll be okay.

Thank you so much for your reply katzpur. I will have to check their availability and prices. At least now I know those areas are safe . can anyone suggest any other complex apartments ? And Where I can find the bus schedules? I look for it at rideuta and I couldn't find them, they only have the TRAX schedule.

Thanks in advance

Here is the link to schedules and maps per bus line: Riding UTA (click on Salt Lake County)

This is also helpful, a map of the univeristy area and WHICH bus lines go WHERE. Make sure that you find an apartment that is not only on a bus line, but the RIGHT bus line to get where you're going

(link to pic if you want to blow it up http://www.rideuta.com/images/uofusystemmap0410large.jpg (broken link))

I did the same thing to find a place. Hope this helps!

Hi, isn't the Brigham rented out to LDS faithful? I'm not 100% sure, although it's right next to a Cathedral, if you are Catholic it may or may not work out for you.

Emmigration Court is on 5th East at about 4th South. The TRAX station is a bit over a block away, that would be the Trolley Station on 6th East, 4th South. That will take you up to the U Med Center. I think that would be the most convenient. The Brigham on S. Temple will be on a bus, but still do-able. The advantage of the TRAX is that they run at higher frequencies throughout the day. I find that I don't even need to carry a schedule around for TRAX, just memorize the first/last trains for the day.

Check craigslist for comparable rentals in the Trolley Square area, those will also be convenient to the TRAX.

Huh? What led you to believe that? The name of the apartment?

Anyone can, and does, rent at the Brigham Apartments. In fact, I don't think you can rent based off of religion.

Since you work around the University the light-rail line runs right by there. Your price range of up to 1000 covers a large amount of apartments in the SLC area, including Brigham Apartments, especially if you're looking for a studio, and possibly 1 bedroom. Other noteworthy off the top of my head (and close to Trax):

Emigration Court
Bridges at Citifront
Northgate Apartments (at the Gateway)
Park Capitol Apts.
Palladio
Jefferson School Apartments

ksl.com is a good place to look for apartments to rent. Click on classifieds from the menu, and then scroll to find apartments to rent.

I would tell you that 3/4s of your neighbors will be retired couples that do volunteer work at Temple Square in various capacities for the LDS Church.

So that probably means you won't have that much help lifting your piano into your new apartment, but you will have 50+ instant grandpas willing to help you fix everything in your apartment and car. Also you will have 50+ instant grandmas willing to sew, teach you how to play that piano and listen to any stressful stories you might have to share.

Not too bad.
