I'm a female, and I'll be a grad student in the fall, which means that I will need a place to live near Downtown San Antonio, TX. I've been searching day in and day out for an affordable, safe and nice apartment but so far I'm not sure what to choose. So any advice on specific places is welcomed

I've been looking for apartment reviews for some specific apartment complex but need more info. So, who can tell me or give me info on these apartments in San Antonio:

City Gate Apartments
Refugio Place
Artisan at Mission Creek
Woods of Brookhollow

Thank you for your help!

it's hard to find -- I live in Southtown at Judson, but it's hard to find a rental here, mostly owners. Try Debra with Centro Properties, she has the most downtown properties.

Try Vistana. Cadiallac Lofts. There are also some other lofts near UTSA but they go fast and I forgot the name of them.

St. Benedict lofts. Also some new ones going up on Durango.

Yeah, the new ones at Durango are affordable from what I've been told. I'm forgetting the name, but you can't miss them: Stainless steel roofing, very mod looking, great views of the Tower and directly across from the Institute of Texan Cultures.

St Bennies is nice, but from what I know, fully booked.

Vistana, IMO, is overpriced for what it is. Sloppy finish-out. Their 'penthouse' units are a joke, using standard appliances and materials for premium money paid. Meh.

Cadillac is good, but true loft style. No real, full walls. All temporary. It can be fun and I hear they let you do a good amount of customizing to your unit while you're a tenant.

Don't count out Blue Star Arts Complex too. There are about 3 units available in the new building and several lofts open in the other, older spaces.

Debbie Maltz has the scoop. She's also got some really charming bungalows in the Pearl District, as well as a whole lot of off the net specials. Contact her if you can.

I live at the cadillac lofts. It's cheaper than other sites for a reason. The website is very outdated. I have the smallest apt for $800. Common areas not kept clean. They claim to be "dog friendly" but are not really. The concrete floors are impossible to clean as this was a dealership at one time. You can scrub forever and still get stuff up. When it says "pool", it means tenants have access to the Tropicana Hotel 2 blocks away. Same with exercise room.

Between you and me (and the whole web now), the guy who owns Cadillac also owns a slew of other properties downtown and is known for not keeping them up to snuff (or code for that matter). I've got a friend who's at Blue Star right now and it's a huge mess. Just ridiculous.

I say look at Cevallos Lofts (er, apartments) in Southtown or if you can schedule a look at the new Steel House Lofts on S Flores, there appear to be some interesting floorplans there. Don't think it's opening until mid-Fall though.

well not really, those places arent all that for the asking prices.

ps - why would you recommend cadillac and then turn around in your next post and say 'oh, btw, the guy who owns that place isnt known for keeping his property up to code'. boggles the mind...

You're not so good with dates are you? Look closely.

First post about Caddy: 2010
Most recent post about Caddy: 2012

Hindsight is 20/20. We live, we learn.

As for them being affordable, they both have low-income restriction units (if the shoe fits, that is). Cevallos is also doing some serious wheeling and dealing to meet quota.

Thanks to everyone that replied. This thread is actually very old. From 2 years ago. And I no longer need and apartment, as I have already settled in San Antonio, and look forward to moving to my second apartment in the following month. Thanks again!
