Default Let's give Gen. McChrystal a parade

I was old enough to remember Gen. McArthur and his remarks to Pres. Truman and I was at the parade for Gen. McArthur in front of the Alamo. If McCrystal is fired tomorrow, let's be the first city to give the General a whopping big parade in San Antonio, Military City USA.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Time for the General to go away... quietly

That's about as much as we need to discuss about the national political aspects of the story in this forum.

For "insubordination" and for disrespecting the office of the presidency.

He deserves no parade. Nada. Nothing.

If I were to foolishly make juvenile comments publicly about my employer in a national magazine, I'd be fired!

Hasta la vista, General.

What I mean by "why" is for what? What did he do that deserves a parade particularly here in SA?

I give 100% support to anybody in the military that is subordinate to his superiors.
McCrystal is a bad example to all the military people in our city.

I wonder what McCrystal would have done if anybody under him would have done the same thing to him.

After 34 years of dedicated service to his country, he deserves it!

Secondly, the has been no proof that he said anything that was claimed in the Rolling Stone article. I have sat in on numerous teleconferences chaired by GEN McChrystal and the person described in the article is not him. Plus, he has a stellar reputation in the special operations community, which is not easily swayed by the toy soldier BS!

Additionally, he is the best damn general we've got for the situation in Afghanistan. Anyone that understands counter-insurgency tactics realizes that it is a much tougher fight then a conventional battle.

Lastly, he has earned his position in the military. It is not something that is "gifted" to him by a majority vote nor did come at the whim of certain individuals. Whether he made those remarks or not (and I for one believe that Rolling Stone is quoting him second- or third-hand, embellishing them or even making them up!), it is a minor incident in a career full of sacrifice and accomplishment, and for that he should deserve everyone's respect!

Oh, and just so everyone knows, if those comment were made by McChrystal and were done in a confidential setting; then it is not a violation of Article 88 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (Contempt Towards Officials). Unless McChrystal intended to make them public, he does have the right to make those comments privately!

But, from a non-political standpoint, I think Obama is handling this wrong. His best course of action would be to accept McChrystal's apology and press forward. However, I am very doubtful that will happen. This is about politics no matter what anyone thinks, and if Obama does let McChrystal go then he is opening up the opportunity for McChrystal to really say what he thinks about the current Administration's handling of Afghanistan; and in an election year that will not look to favorably on the Democrats!
