Bummed to learn this morning that the statues in Hunt are being removed - but they ARE going to be relocated to the Hill Country Arts Foundation in Ingram, TX. It was a favorite stop for LOTS of folks - guess we'll have to explore some new roads now! Just hope they'll continue to be displayed in the outdoors.

Oh wow, I never knew about this. How cool! I hope to see it someday in its new home. Thanks for the link to the pics, Bowie!

I totally don't understand the point of recreating the statues of other cultures. Do we need a stonehenge in every state?

NOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo! I love those statues out by Hunt (here's the story behind them), it's fun taking pictures of them and confusing folks who have no idea that they are in Texas!

But it turns out the rumor is true!

At least we got to see them in their original location!

Charles, you need to understand the complete story behind them. It is/was actually a pretty neat idea, and drew folks from all over!

I saw that on the news last night and it sorta chapped my hind quarters. The news said that the current property owner needs to use the pasture area for something else. Personally, I wouldn't want to share any of my property with the general public. It's just that it's pretty much just one of those things you expect to see on the side of the road before you head into that turn.

Such a pretty area out there.

Just a couple of my pictures of Stonehenge II:

Picture A Day July 5, 2009 - Easter Island Head at Stonehenge II near Hunt, Texas on Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/matthigh/3683163058/ - broken link)
Picture A Day April 6, 2010 - Among the Pillars at Stonehenge II on Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/matthigh/4524406339/ - broken link)
Picture A Day May 31, 2009 - Stonehenge II at Sunset on Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/matthigh/3663308497/ - broken link)

The setting in the open field near the river was *perfect*. I doubt they'll have the same charm in their new digs.

So will there be any reason to make a special trip to Hunt anymore? We went there last year to check out Stonehenge. There isn't much else to see there, aside from a couple of campgrounds, a few vacation cabins and a gas station.
