Default San Antonio vs Kansas City

I am considering a move to either San Antonio or Kansas City. I'm pretty familiar with KC but have only been to San Antonio a few times. I'm pretty aware of the differences in climate. I haven't really decided which type I prefer. Can anyone tell me any major differences in the two cities? If you've been to both, is the Texmex vibe different than the midwest vibe? In what ways? How safe is San Antonio? Thanks for the responses.

Are you moving to the Kansas side or the Missouri side?
Do you have kids? Single? Married? Age group? etc, etc, etc.

Not sure where in Kansas City. Possible KC, MO, Overland Park, KS or Lees Summit, MO. My wife and I are in our mid 20's but not really into the club and bar scene. We like outdoor activities, active lifestyle and don't have any kids.

San Antonio is probably one of the safest larger cities in the country. Part of that is, IMO, due to our "concealed carry" laws - because the wanna-be bad guys never know when an intended victim may be armed themselves. Thing is, there's a lot more to it - things that you have to decide for yourself. There's plenty to do in Texas - and I'm sure there is in KS or MO, as well.

About a year ago we visited my Stepson who was living in Overland Park, KS and I was very impressed with the area. I really liked not seeing tall signs for businesses, etc. although it made it had to locate some places. The area was well manicured and was impressive to say the least. We were basically tourists for a week and there are many things to do. I liked the idea of gambling on the MO side. The closest Casino to San Antonio is approx 140 miles away.

San Antonio is a GREAT City and it is affordable living. Being as young as you all are I would look at the various opprtunities for employment, salary, etc.

I work at Fedex and am what's called ramp agent responsible for coordinating the offloading of the planes in the morning. My job will allow me transfer to either location with similar pay. San Antonio summers dont look fun but I would think the winters make up for it. I don't want to sound tacky, but does the large hispanic population result in more crime or is that not really a factor. I'm just not familiar with being in an area with that heavy of a hispanic influence. I'm not saying its bad but I'm curious how it affects the area, positive and negative.

You will enjoy the Hispanic / Mexican population here in San Antonio. You will love their culture, their cooking, and their friendship. They are no more of an influence on crime as you or I. As they say... Crime comes in all colors and races. Prior to my Stepson moving to KS (He returned to San Antonio due to a better job offer) I checked on the Crime Statistics and to the best of my knowledge the crime rate was higher in the Kansas City KS and MO areas.

You are in a fortunate situation due to your employment with FedEx. I would accept the offer to transfer and try San Antonio for at least one year. Yes the San Antonio Summer's can take a toll on you but if I recall it was humid in KS when we were there in August.

One BIG advantage to living in TX is we pay no State Income Tax. With your pay being pretty much the same the two of you will do very well.

Thank you. I'll keep an eye on the thread for you evaluation. Just curious, I know the northern part of the city is located in hill country, is the rest of the city somewhat hilly or flat? Keep in mind I currently live in Wichita, KS where the only elevation are the overpasses.

Um, 100% absolutely, NO. We're not more inclined to commit crimes because we're Latino.

Just like all other very large cities, we have our fair share of drunks, potheads, lowlifes and people you don't wanna be around. But this stuff is in ALL major cities everywhere.
