Also, there is no parking problem at the DT campus. If your bus route to the DT campus didn't work with your schedule, you wouldn't have any trouble if you needed to drive to DT campus to get a bus.

The Vistana apartments on Santa Rosa would be a short walk to the DT campus.

Especially since I'm not being hired as a dean so the UTSA "executive" spots are probably not an option for me. ;-)
Sounds like a great solution. And yeah, extra time to read is always a good thing!

I work at UTSA's downtown campus and live near downtown (get on I-10 at Hildebrand). However, I do go up to the Main Campus regularly and find that overall the commute isn't too bad up there. I think it takes me about 30 minutes to leave my house, find a parking space and get to my building. I have a "B" spot, which means that I have to park a little further out. Still, it's not that bad if you get there by 8:00 am. A number of my colleagues pay for the "A" spots, but I'm not going to shell out $275 for parking every year. A few colleagues do take the bus, as well. While it doesn't run as regularly as transit in other big cities, it's a convenient option if you prefer not to drive.

Welcome to San Antonio and to UTSA!

We're in San Antonio for the weekend and I'm going to give the commute from downtown a trial run tomorrow morning. I'll probably leave from downtown at 7:15 AM. Excited!

If you're leaving at 7:15 I can pretty much guarantee that your commute will be less than 20 mins. Good luck, I'm sure you will find your drive pleasant and quick. Please post your experience tomorrow, I would like to know how it goes.

Good point, sa dave! Meep meep! elmariachi, our car was parked near St. Mary's and El Nueva near the middle of the south end of downtown. We left at 7:15 AM and were in a parking lot (appeared to be an employee lot) on campus at 7:37. And this particular lot was probably only about 1/3 full. Traffic never dropped below 5 under the limit on I-10 and traffic was mostly going above the limit. 22 minutes. I was very happy about that. I think I could shave at least a couple of minutes off if I knew the route in advance and kept up with the faster traffic.

And just in case anyone is curious, we timed our return trip and measured it to the Masjetic Theatre since we wanted to see how heavy the traffic through the center of downtown was. This trip was from 7:50 to 8:13 so 23 minutes total. I was actually surprised it wasn't longer since traffic was heavy on 1604 and it ground to a halt a few times on 1604 and on I-10. I'm guessing we averaged 35 MPH for several miles and then it was smooth sailing after 6 miles or so on I-10. I was actually shocked how light the traffic downtown was (we drove a couple of miles back and forth through downtown to check).
