Back when I worked at the San Pedro Drive In, I had a "pet" spider in the projection room. It was an orb weaver. I would catch June bugs and throw them into the web. That spider would immediately kill the June bug, and wrap it up, and eat it later. The spider got HUGE. One day I set one of the CinemaScope lenses on the rewind table and heard a bad crunch noise. It was the spider. I really felt bad about it's death. It was very entertaining to watch. I do not knowingly kill spiders unless they are poisonous.

Nice photo, johnts71! It does look like a wolf spider. Looks like it has the "union jack" pattern on its back. They also have 8 eyes (if that is a wolf spider). Also, they won't normally bite humans (unless provoked), but they cause skin irritation and secondary infections.

That's a healthy-looking wolf spider. They're my favorites, because they feast on pests without the aid of a web. You see, if there's a web anywhere in my vicinity, I will, without intent nor exception, walk through the darned thing, then have a complete freak-out getting it off of me.

So yeah, wolf spiders spare me that.

scorpions and roaches are NOT welcome, however

here's a few critters i've taken pictures of while we did yard work. (the white spores are lacewing eggs.)

Wow... that's really cool! I thought I was the only one that had a hard time getting things done in the yard because of wanting to snap photos!
