remember when KISS went Oldies? At one time there was 99.5 KISS, 101.1 KONO, Magic 105.3 and 930 KOOL. That same time there was KSRR Star 93, KQ-102, and K-Mix 106.
During the 80s KITY 92.9 (Power 93) KSAQ-KSJL (kindof a bob-fm of the 80s until late 88) and KTFM 103 CHR in Spanish there was Z1075 KZVE(debut 1987). For the AC outlets there was KFAN 101, KQXT 1019 and KMMX 1067. For Oldies KSMG 1053 before that it was Country KWED-FM (young country) KRIO was Texas Music/ Country and for Rock there was KISS AM/FM before Radio News Network and KSJL Z-rock.
In the 70s to the mid 80s you had:
550 KTSA Top40 until 1986 I remember waking up to Sade Smooth Operator on my then only AM clock radio
930 AM KMAC (now KSLR) album rock
99.5 KISS / 104.5 KEXL active rock
76-KSJL Spirit of 76 (I do not know what that format was then)
860 KONO top40 until 8? then oldies
On the FM dial
KXTN 1310 Tejano
KITY 929 KITY
KMFM 96.1 MOR? then flipped to KSLR 96 Son light Radio(remember that sign on Jones Maltsberger by the airport that sign remained until 2003)
Before 1986 there was Q100 KSAQ-FM100.3 then KLLS Class-FM until 1987 then Y-100
KFAN 101
KQXT KQ102
KTFM 103
KWED Young Country 105.3 (now Magic KSMG)
KESI Star 106 (106.3) after 1986 KMMX KMIX 106
KBUC 107.5 Country after 1987 KZVE Z1075FM
My favorites of those times
KTSA550 (they were more urban oriented than KTFM)
KSAQ Q96 The Killer New Music format which was a hybrid-CHR
KMMX 1067 KMIX they played more 70s even some Simon and Garfunkel tunes.
