Our front door faces W/SW. I have an evergreen "monkey grass" (some form of liriope or ophiopogon, not sure which one) lining our front beds. We had it put in this spring by our former landscape/mowing guy. It did really well until late June, when we noticed the tips of the leaves were turning brown. Now the brown is creeping further down. It also has stopped growing since the heat started so it has not really filled in. It all gets morning shade and full afternoon sun (about 4-5 hrs of it), so the obvious seems to be the landscaper put in a cultivar that is not sun-tolerant. Either that or I need to be watering it more, but I water 2 times a week if we don't have rain. Perhaps that is not enough. In any case, it is not looking like it should.

So, now that I might have to spend another $100 on an ornamental border, can anyone here recommend a specific type of ornamental grass, either a variety of liriope or something else that looks like it, that likes full afternoon sun? Website information is contradictory and annoying. I probably should head over to Rainbow Gardens, but I thought I would ask in case anyone knows what I'm talking about.

Or maybe someone can just give me advice on what I should do with the current stuff I have?

Thanks!!

One thing you could try is Mexican Feather Grass. Of course, now is not the best time to be planting something new, fall is better.

I LOVE that! It is soooo pretty. That is a good idea, but I am afraid it might be too tall. I have Mexican petunias behind it and ixoras that have not quite filled in behind that. Hmmm, I might have to think on that a bit.

Yes, I will definitely wait until fall before making any changes. Good idea.

Just the fact that you said you should head on over to Rainbow Gardens and not Lowes or HD means you are on the right track. Good luck.
