The wife and I have started to look for homes, and we found a few that we like in the Potranco/Westover Hills area. We were initially looking outside of loop 1604 near Braun, but have found the houses to be much more affordable (obviously) in this area.

The plusses for us are the easy access we'd both have to work downtown, the price, and from everything we've seen of the neighborhoods they seem quiet and very well taken care of.

Any and all info/opinions would be appreciated!

Smart move...traffic to downtown should be a bit better from this area. San Antonio city limits is in and out of 1604 in this area. You can save some money by finding a home that is in the county vice the city.

Westover hills area has been great to us. We are actually getting ready to put our home on the market Sept. 1st. We are building a new home. Our home is in Westover Place. 4 Bedroom 2 Bath, 1491 One story with Pool.

We love Westover Hills. It's a really nice, quiet area that is seeing some growth as of late. The whole Westover Hills area is a master-planned, mixed-use area that is bordered by 151 to the west and 1604 to the northwest, and to the east by Culebra Road. The Hyatt Hill Country Resort and Golf Course is right in the middle and sets the tone for the area. Lots of limestone, rolling hills, and trees. Elementary schools are Evers (TEA Recognized) and Raba (TEA Exemplary); Middle School is Jordan (TEA Recognized), and high school is Warren (TEA Recognized). Popular neighborhoods are: Westover Place (just outside of 151 off of Potranco, technically not Westover Hills so not zoned to the above schools), Westover Valley, Westover Forest, Westover Woods, All Legacy Trails neighborhoods (Fairways, Retreat, Mirabella), Estates at Westover Hills, Stonegate Hill, The Enclave at Westover Hills, Aviara, and a couple of others I might be forgetting. It's a great area! Homes range from 170K to 400K. Good luck with your search!

Awesome feedback. Thanks a ton. The wife and I are close to putting an offer on an older home in the Oak Creek subdivision. We drove the area extenisively today, and really liked what we saw.

I've been through Oak Creek many times. The houses further north (north of Military Drive West) are older and have bigger lots (I would recommend this area). The lots tend to get smaller as you go toward Potranco. Speed bumps on Rousseau between Military Drive West and Potranco are an eyesore and not easy on your shocks. The homeowners association is voluntary and they used to have a pool and recreation area a long time ago, but they're all closed. You are also in the city, so you'll pay more on property taxes.
