Has anyone ever worked (or known someone that has) in the Marketing area of USAA? I've seen many threads about other areas of the company, but wondered about their Marketing department.

Thanks!

They have a very large marketing support staff there. What do you want to know? Are you trying to get hired there in marketing support? What specific marketing role are you interested in?

Thanks for the response, Quattro. I was looking at the posted marketing jobs on their website and there are a TON listed- which seems a bit odd, as that many positions are rarely open at once in most companies....wanted to find out how the department was structured- if it was large and what the heirarchy is like. I have a varied background in many different types of marketing (some creative/some strategic) and had always heard USAA was a great place to work. Just wanted some basic background, I guess. Thanks in advance!!

I believe just like any other large companies, there are different marketing support groups within the organization. There are probably a large number of internal communications support and not to mention all the other outside marcom and communications support staff.

So are you interested in marcom or more internal communications? I am guessing your experiencing is not in 100% creative/design but rather managing an internal creative group or an outside agency when you mention creative? Another great source to make connections is within LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com) if you are not already on there. Getting in USAA is tough and it is about who you know.

I would say definitely more marcom than internal comm. Yes, most of my experience is with working with and managing agency relationships and strategic planning in advertising.

I know many people in the marketing dept. Much of their work is outsourced and the in-house staff is inexperienced. Unless the bank is about to foreclose on you, I would look for a job elsewhere if you value your sanity.
