San Antonio is actually loaded with things to do for those people who don't want to spend money (or have already "been there - done that") at the local amusement parks. A few places that seem to be overlooked by regular residents are the missions, and some of the local parks. No, you aren't going to go to these places daily, but even once a year they are fun to see, and educational.
Want to see how shoes are made, eat some fresh popcorn for a nickel and have a coke for a dime? You owe it to yourself, and especially if you have kids to go visit San Antonio Shoes.
Looking for something a little fancier, everybody should see Artisans Alley at least once. If you feel like that may be a little too ritzy for you shopping budget, then you MUST experience Bussey's Flea Market. You can make Bussey's an outing once a month and still see something new every time you go.
A lot of people overlook what is available just downtown. You don't have to wait for Fiesta, you can enjoy the many shops down at the Mercado year round.
Speaking of downtown, if you are willing to pay for entry, there is always the Buckhorn museum , and several other areas of interest. Just a short drive from the downtown area is the zoo and of course, the Witte Museum. Lots of good stuff there.
Finally, ( though there are so many other places and things to see in do in San Antonio), if you are willing to drive a few miles, there are lots of small towns with their own unique points of interest. Try Bandera, New Brunfels, Castroville, and Johnson City, just to name a few.
Really, there is no reason to ever be bored in SA, because just about everywhere you turn, there is something new and interesting!

SC78250, I tried to rep you but can't till I pass some more around. Thanks for the great post! After living here over 20 years, I am still amazed by SA and all it has to offer if you just look for it. We were downtown last night at Pat O'Brien's for a Christmas party, and our downtown is stunning right now. It's always pretty, but especially so at this time of year. We've made plans to go back down Friday night with my son so he can enjoy also. (Maybe it will be warmer by then....... it was a tad too chilly last night, for me anyway.)

Thanks Sapphire. Our downtown is GREAT and it is too bad more of the folks who live here don;t enjoy it except for when people come to visit.
Totally unrelated - I'm new to this City Data thing; what is the whole "rep" thing all about? Apparently, I'm a 16 which probably equates to my level of maturity!

When you read a good post, you should try to click on the bottom left of that post where it says "rate this post positively." Or you can click on the above right--I think it's the scales, where you can leave a comment as well--on that one you can rate it negatively also. It's just weird how it won't let you rep someone until it feels you have shown the love to a certain number of other people first. You can't just rep every post by one person, in other words.
