Hello,
We are starting our search to find a home to buy and we have some pretty specific things we are looking for in a home. I wanted to get your suggestions on neighborhoods to start looking into.
We prefer a newer home that was at least built later than the 1980's. We prefer a neighborhood that has more custom looking homes rather than cookie cutter homes. We like trees in the yard, but the neighborhood doesn't necessarily have to be established. We want great public schools and we would like the neighborhood to have a lot of children living there. My husband's job is at 281 and 410 and we would like his commute to be 20 minutes or less. The neighborhoods we have looked into so far have been Deerfield, Bluffview Greens, and Emerald Forest. Are there any other neighborhoods that you think I should add to our list? Maybe some on the East, West or South side of San Antonio?
Thank you very much. Buying a home is one of the biggest decisions you can make and we don't want to make a mistake. So any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I think that the most important question now will be: what is your budget??

Rarichie,

The areas that you've mentioned are affluent neighborhoods with income's ranging in the $90-150K range. Some other neighborhood's to consider are Churchill Estates, Inwood, Blanco Bluff, Blanco Woods, Bluffview Estates, Mission Ridge. There are so many areas to choose from. I would suggest that you get the help and advice of a real estate professional that will help you sort the areas based on your wish list. However, the first step would be to get pre-qualified for the amount based on your financial situation prior to viewing any properties. You do not want to be disappointed if you fall in love with a property but you are unable to buy. As a mortgage banker, I have seen this happen one too many times and it's not pretty. I can refer you to an excellent real estate professional if you do not have one. Moderator cut: see comment

The OP was asking for opinions from residents. I don't think a realtor will know much about children in the neighborhoods. This is a site for objective advice, not for you to solicit business.

OP, forget the real estate professionals and look for yourself:

All three neighborhoods you mentioned are great. None are going to be FULL of kids because, well, the homes are a bit more expensive and not a lot of younger people can afford them.
I would also look at Inwood (all of them) and possibly Rogers Ranch, though that may be too cookie cutter for you. You could look at The Vineyards as well...
GL!

Ok well to start try 78248 / anything with Deerfield or Inwood in the name. That should keep you busy for a while...
