Well when I worked at rivercenter mall i used to park under the 37 bridge. next to the red roof inn. It cost a dollar for the entire day. Most people are probably worried about parking there but ive never had any problem after years of parking there. There is sometimes homeless people walking around but they dont bother me.

If you work at the mall, is there any place to park for free?

I parked at the rivercenter this weekend - big mistake! I was only up 1 level (C) and it took more than one half hour to even move. It took more than 20 minutes after that to exit. There was almost no traffic on the street. It cost $18! ($3 extra for the privilege of waiting the hour to leave). There were a maximum of 35 cars in front of me and probably more like 28. fyi: on Dec 27, 2010, you could get 2 hour validation with movies. also, now is pay by credit card only.

When we go to Alamo we park by the Express News building a couple of blocks north of the Alamo on Avenue E. There is always metered parking available and sometimes free parking since part of that downtown is still residential in pockets.
