12 year old dared by friends dies in accident | WOAI.COM: San Antonio News

It really pisses me off that the parents of the kids let them be out much less walk home at 11:30 pm. Judging by the area I am thinking she may have been an Anson Jones student, but not 100% sure. Very sad for her..

I saw that article, and it just saddens me beyond belief...

As a parent, I simply cannot fathom what it would be like to lose a child.

Sad that nowhere in the article are the parents mentioned, not only of the girl who died but of the other children participating as well. Where were they, why was their child running around an access roads past curfew? I don't know if this constitutes neglect in a legal sense, but it sure sounds like it from the perspective of common sense.

Also, "The family has opened up an account and Security Services and is asking for your help." Help for what?? Not sure donations are going to fix what's wrong here.

mysa.com has a better-written story, but it still doesn't make sense why she was not picked up from the skating rink. I'm really sorry for this mother's loss of her only daughter, but nothing good can come from letting them run the streets ( in this case, literally ) at night. I see kids out late all the time here and it just makes me sick. Even my son says "Where are their parents???"

And now we have one more of those tacky roadside memorials. Yippee.

Mother mourns loss of only daughter

Interesting article. I see it is in fact Anson Jones. Going to be a lot of sad 7th graders on that campus this week.

The article said she'd been going there for 2 years and I wonder if mom dropped her off solo for those two years as well. Also noticed she has a 10, 8 and 5 year old. I hope better decisions are made in their future.

Poor little girl.....

I may not be a parent but little coffins are so sad to look at.....sadder, I believe.....

I once saw a BBC news segment about how in a certain part of Ethiopia the little kids {reportedly even as young as 4 years of age} are taught to make the coffins of their own child friends, relatives, and siblings.....

That really hurt me when I heard about it.....

May precious memories of Casandra fill her family's hearts and help to ease their pain.......

Another terrible lesson in the perils of peer pressure, very tragic story. I wonder if enacting an earlier curfew would have any affect? Say 10pm?

No easy solution to controlling this issue.

I read in the article that the parents have set up an account at a local financial institution and are asking the public for donations to (presumably) defray with her funeral expenses???

Is there not already a curfiew for children of this age?
Even so, we shouldnt need govt to tell us we as parents need a curfiew for our kids ...should be common sense.
