Agreed.....exactly.....a Melting Pot, it has been called?

So many cultures, languages, religions, ideas, etc. yet it's still ONE PLANET they are all on, so logically An Eternal Blending naturally migratingly-happens over the centuries {thus also certainly in turn negating so many illogically-outdated and legally-insane counterproductive laws that are currently in effect in the books worldround, I have noticed}.....

Bingo. As the president so eloquently put it last week, "We don't differentiate between 'them' and 'us'...there is just us." (Link: Faith in Public Life :: Bold Faith Type)

The point being, Muslims are as much a part of the fabric of America as any Christian, any Buddhist, any Jew, any religion, any atheist. This fabric of many different threads are part of what make the United States such a great country, and it saddens me (but does not surprise me) to see some of the negative and divisive reactions in this thread.
Wow, impressive post.....and I wholly agree.......

Thanks for the original post. What I don't understand from some folks is the need to post"why" they won't go? How about you say thanks for the info and move on. Granted this is a Free Country, I served 20 years to help make it so. And while my part was small, I do feel like some folks miss the whole point. In my opinion of Freedom means that you DON'T have the right NOT to be offended.
Are you offened by someone posting a Festival? No? Then why post? If your offended by a group of race, creed, sex, religion, etc? Then start a post about that.
Again, thanks to the original poster, I will discuss this with the family and see if they would like to go. Even though I am not Muslim, having been in a few Countries that have a large Muslim population, I love some of the exotic foods and styles.

I'm offended that you're offended that they're offended.

Silliness. Who cares if they post that they don't want to go? Really?

Since you are into conspiracy theories...
I think they are using shawarmas to control us... because I haven't have a shawarma plate in more than 2 years and I'm pretty sure I could do some crazy things to have some again.

Oh, okay. Conspiracy theories, eh? An easy way to say you don't have a response.

I think it's funny how this thread has spiralled. It started with someone saying they didn't want to go and why. Nothing about how they hate Muslims, nothing about how they hate anyone else. Just a simple "I'm not interested in learning about their culture". Now the discussion is how many Christians have killed people in the past vs. Muslims? Wow. Really sad.

So, people here can't say why they don't want to go to an event, because of the people presenting it and what they may believe. These posters are being demonized as "haters" and "closed-minded". They're made to feel a sort of shame, as if they're somehow less intelligent or enlightened because of their beliefs.

Yet, the only hateful rhetoric I see here are from the very people that are pointing fingers.

It only shows that nothing ever truly changes in this world.

It's an extremely hot button issue at this time and people are on edge for any inconsistency that they see with their beliefs. It's as simple as that, imo.

What's really funny is that this thread would probably have slid quietly off the front page fairly fast...with few people even noticing it was here...except for the people who wanted to make a big emphatic belabored argumentative point about why they clearly did not want to go! Instead it's going to stay right up here for a little while, very visible. Life can be odd that way....hey, must be an election year!

And saying that Michael Enright was dropped from the news because he worked for a left-wing group is not a conspiracy theory?
Or could it be that the story was dropped because it was about an innocent Muslim-American victim of a white killer?
BTW, Blagojevich is white and leftwing, and I've had to hear about his reasons why he's innocent (making them up as he talks) for almost 2 years straight.

Again, I could go on and talk about this for days... but this thread is not for that.

Your post was a waste of time, was my point. Who cares that you served so we could have freedom if you get pissed that people use their freedom to express an opinion about something on a message board? Stupid. IN MY OPINION, which, thanks to your service, and mine, I'm allowed to express.

Good on ya. whatevs.
