There are a few farmers' markets around, the most famous one being Pearl Brewery. I like the Leon Springs market on Saturdays, but what I really like to do is go straight to the grower and buy produce right on the farm, where it truly has been JUST PICKED. Other than that, I recommend a vegetable garden (mine keeps me supplied for weeks at a time); you could also get involved with one of the numerous community gardens around the city if you don't want to tackle that project on your own or don't have space.

Google San Antonio Foodshed and DM me if you'd like more info.

Where to Find Pick-Your-Own Fruit and Vegetable Farms / Orchards for Local, Fresh Fruit, Vegetables and Pumpkins, Along With Canning, Freezing & Preserving Instructions! is a good resource for finding were you can pick your own fruits and veggies around. There is also a good farmers market at 281 and 1604 near the best buy on Sundays. A lot of the vendors from the brewery come there on sundays.

There is a nice one at the Office Depot on 35 in Windcrest on Saturday mornings - very fresh produce and nice people.
