Jane, I am a hunter and I can tell you that seeing an animal suffer is not something I want. However sometimes it is necessary to thin animal populations. Wild hogs especially are a nuisance and ranchers do not like them because they tear up property and are very destructive. It is becoming a big problem in many states because they are spreading quickly.

Thank you for all the recommendations.

We've been hunting for 30 years, we always go for the best kill shot, I don't know anyone who likes to see and animal suffer. My husband and I may hunt, but we are also animal lovers. But, we do believe in wildlife management, meaning keeping the numbers down for the good of the species and for mankind.

Thanks for the gland info. Are they in the same spot as the tarsal glands on a dear? I'll google it as well. We are very careful about getting our animals field dressed right away, and the meat cooled down fast. We usually butcher ourselves because we don't like our meat mixed with other hunters meat that may not have handled their animal as well. However, we've never hunted pig. We did hunt alligator a few years ago, field dressed and butchered 2 of them ourselves, they were delicious! We're more use to Deer, Elk, antelope, and game birds.

Any more pig tips would be much appreciated

If the pig is over 100 lbs, it's not gonna be fit to eat, generally speaking. Too gamey and rank tasting. As others have noted, their population HAS to be kept under control, or else they'll destroy pasture land quickly - and you don't want to see what they can do to a cultivated field!!

I believe the gland post is referring to Javalinas not hogs.

Granzin's has earned my business.
