Unless you have a Security Clearance you should really check out DFW or Austin as possible options.

I'll second that one
and I have a funny feeling the OP doesn't have a security clearance... however, anyone in the IT biz with a TS SCI can feel free to PM me.

It depends on the area you are in. Database, Java, and Unix skills are in high demand here. As well as senior level IT. So much in fact, that a lot of companies are even searching world wide for candidates.

Agreed. I have hired several people lately, and got similar feedback from headhunters about it being busy.

I'm hoping the DC market is at least what they're forecasting. I'll have my BS done in about two years and my resume will be filled with all sorts of nice things (SAN, Unix, Linux, Windows, DB's, security suites etc) once our system is up and running.
ultimate job would be the NSA DC actually opening and having a management type job in there..

almost all org have their own IT dept. if that is what you are looking for.. but if you are looking more on consulting firms or IT provider type of businesses, dallas and austin have more opportunities... but it doesn't mean its absent here in SA... its just that there's more there...

Ah, Rackspace does not pay nearly what they should! low 20s was offered to a friend as of late. Needless to say he told them he had another offer and Rackspace could not/would not match it so over to USAA he went.
