My wife and I just got it...yes, it is less expensive, but the service is not as good. It is supposed to save TW a lot of $$ because the copper wiring is no longer needed. I am happy with the savings, but my wife is getting upset with the freeze frames. It acts like dial-up at times. My hope is that, with time, it gets better.

We got u-verse about a year ago. There were a few bumps, but it is shaping up to be a good service. The SD picture quality is very good. The HD picture quality is decent, but it could be better and does seem to be improving. We save quite a bit of TW, but it does appear TW is running some good specials now that uverse is available.
Uverse is mostly FTTN(fiber to the subdivision entrance and the last few thousand feet on phonelines). Uverse will be FTTP in new construction.

I just signed up for new service with TW and they beat the socks off of GVTC as far as price. For $89 per month for the first year we got Digital cable with Showtime and Movie Channel, a HD TIVO box + 2 extra digital boxes, highspeed internet and digital phone with unlimited Texas calling. I added HD channels for another $5 and unlimited calls within US for another $10 per month. Oh, no contract with TW, I can cancel at any time. After one year the bundle goes up to $129 and we start paying for Showtime & Movie Channel.
GVTC didn't offer as much in their bundle and was $175 per month after three months of free internet and HD TIVO box (total of $32 off for three months). I would also have had to provide proof of service at my last address and signed a one year contract with GVTC.
I'm now a new TW customer!

That's a really good deal. What channel range do you get for digital cable? For the record though, I believe TW gives a HD DVR, not a HD Tivo. Tivo is a specific brand...

We've had U-verse for about 3 months now and it's okay. I LOVE the picture quality. However, coming from Dish, we miss some of the DVR features like slow motion and so forth. The price is great though. We are paying $79 a month for 200+ channels and high speed wireless internet. All of the receivers will be going wireless by the beginning of 2008. One thing I like about U-verse is that you can record up to 4 channels while watching something else. By the beginning of the year, this will be up to 12 shows at one time.
We had Grande in our past home and I miss that terribly. I'm not really sure why they don't offer it in more areas of town. They have great quality at unbelievable prices. I had high speed internet with them similar to Roadrunner and only paid $21 a month total (that includes tax).

Thanks for the info on DVR vs. TIVO...
Honestly I'm not sure about the channel range. We are not moved in yet and the installation is not until next week. I'll get back to ya after a night in the recliner!

I've got less than a week before my move from Chicago and I'm glad I didn't cancel my dsl yet. Now I will ask if I qualify for this package as I will be 'new' to SA.
I do not have cable here because I really do not enjoy the frustration of customer service and the absurdly HIGH cost! I do have a tv and use the regular old bunny ears. Get channels cbs, nbc, abc, wgn, pbs and a Spanish Channel for free. I really do not need much more.
Hey, what local channels can a person get in SA with bunny ears and no cable?
Thanks,
Gen

Price Quotes: 1/28 for 4 TVs, 2 HD
[1/28/08 Notes
Confirguation: 4 TVs, 2 HD DVR, 2 Reg.
Dish
$120+ tax: $50/mos for Dish for 6 months, $70/mos for next 12 mos. 18 mos comittment. With $25 Vonage, and $25 DSL, = $120/mos. + EXTRAS Have to go with Amer. 200 to get Fox Sports SW.
TW Cable.
$130+ tax: With tax $146/mos. No contract: its called a win back. 300 channels. 20 HDTV (Dish HDTV are actually extended definition, not HD.)
AT&T with Dish
$163: Triple Pack ($100), plus VM and Inline Repair Ins ($10), plus HD Channels ($20), plus HD DVR ($6), Extra Receiver ($5) = $141 / mos taxes = surcharges $6 tv $16 phone 0 int ($22) = $163/mos total
Direct TV:
$102/mos. without Phone/Internt.
I have not made the decision yet, but have run some numbers. My biggest issue is Internet Connectivity. I don't have good luck with Wireless Modems, and may pay $30/mos extra to have 2 direct connections to Internet.
Any thoughts on how to avoid paying the extra $30/mo for 2 hard internet connections?
We used a system in my home in Dallas that used the electricity outlets to serve as a wireless enhancement ?

Dealing with TWC used to be a hassle, as at one point, they were just about the only full-spectrum provider in town. But not anymore...
My bill, taking EVERY service TWC offers, is never more than $150/mo. That's for RR Turbo, Digital Phone (nationwide) and every channel (aside from the seasonal sports tiers) that they carry. How is this possible?
As others have said here already: Call their retention department, tell them straight out that AT&T's U-Verse is offering a better deal and they'll fall like a house of cards. I've seen my bill go down over $100/mo doing this.
In addition to doing this, I also call TWC for billing credits when any of my services go down. If you're direct with their CS people, they're usually more than happy to issue credits to keep you a happy customer. Cable television is one thing I refuse to be screwed on, considering TWC has been screwing this town for YEARS.
As for U-VERSE service: I'd tell anyone to wait before switching over. It's still beta technology and AT&T is having a huge issue with streaming more than one HD signal into a home at one time. It's a mess. Depending on how far you are from their neighborhood VRAD, your picture and sound quality may or may not be so good. Same issues many people had in the beginning of DSL service. For more info on the issues, head over to UverseUsers.com
