We are at the very beginning of exploring buying a home in San Marcus TX and somewhat overwhelmed with where to start. We are currently living in SF and there is NO WAY we could ever consider buying here. So we are thinking of buying a home that we can rent out, and that we can live in down the line. We thought about SM because it has a university and may be eaiser to rent. But we are also open to suggestions of other places , told you we are at the beginning!! We don't know the area within the town, so any info or suggesions would be most welcome. Also somewhat concerned about the weather and tonados... especially with global warming. Thanks in advance for you help

OMG....I already have renters for you! PM me! I'm serious!

Check in "Kyle" and "Buda" as well because there is some new construction in that area. They are north of the San Marcos area (just a few miles).

Check out "Gruene" and "New Braunfels" which are just South of SM. All very nice areas and towns.

There are several great older homes IN San Marcos that are even in the historical district.

All of this area is just 30-40 minutes driving distance to San Antonio.

Default No...I'd venture elsewhere...

I've lived in Kyle for 9 years which is about 5 miles north of San Marcos. If you are looking to purchase a decent home that you want to keep nice and eventually live in, I would go elsewhere. The university students will trash your house. If I were you, I'd buy a house in more of a family community and then rent it out to a nice family. I would consider the New Braunfels area. The area is really booming with new neighborhoods. Also, New Braunfels is a vacation spot. I would rather rent my home out to vacationing people than college students. I personally wouldn't ever want to live in San Marcos. It's not very nice.

Personally, I like San Marcos more than practically any other small town in Texas.
