Thanks everyone for the tips! So I take it, try to stay to the North if I want to be near younger people?

I am going to try to arrange a week or so trip to come down and check out the area, hopefully I can find an ideal location to make my new home.

You might also want to see if anyone is wakeboarding at the nearby lakes.

Stay away from the burbs, family city! I'd look at the Southtown area if I were you. It won't be close to your work, but you will be driving in the opposite direction of traffic.

SA is a fantastic town! It, I believe, has four military bases in the area. You'll have fantastic night life, good weather as it is dryer than most parts of Texas. Access to the multitudes of things to do. Sure it gets hot and SA has a few bugs but nothing like people mention. Besides that's why God gave us A/C, pools and pest control companies.

I notice on this forum that a lot of people want to move to Colorado, Utah or Arizona. Sure those places have mountains or deserts but that's about it. Nice weather during the summer. A place for retirees from the east coast and not much else. If you hate cold weather and snow, I couldn't recommend Utah or Colorado. In SA you can have good weather year round but the best part of moving to Texas are the men and women. We are the nicest, kindest and best looking men and women in the US. Hands down!

Based on your age and requirements, you really can't go wrong with SA and Austin. More to do and more fun. You can't beat Texas. Period.

Thanks so much for all of you'r help! I am terrified to be leaving all I have ever known (alone no less! Eeeek!!) but all of you have helped ease my nerves about making the move...

So... the only time I can even kindof say I have been to Texas was a layover at an airport, so I hope you don't think this is a silly or stereotypical question (okay, okay, maybe it's a little silly ) but do people really wear alot of cowboy boots, or is that more in the 'ranch' areas? If they do, I just might have to get a pair!!

People in San Antonio look like the guy on the left on a regular basis.

You'll want to get a pair to party in! But, personally I haven't worn cowboy boots since I was a kid.

Don't be scared! SA is a ton of fun! The best thing about that part of the state is your close to Lake Travis, a huge resevior, the hill country, amazing BBQ and another party city, Austin, is less than 100 miles up I35. It's a great place to be young! For yound folks it's a hundred miles of party and fun IMHO. It would be hard to find that elsewhere. New Orleans is an exception to that.

One other thing; there's lots to do in the way of outside activities all year round. In December you'll know why you moved here from Ohio instead of transfering to some chill-box military post in North Dakota or even Colorado or Utah. I must admit I do not know much about those states though. I'm sure they're nice but we're talking about San Antonio. It's called good weather. It can get chilly but it doesn't stick around like it does in states above the northern border of Oklahoma.
