Our beloved female West Highland White Terrier (Westie) got loose last evening in Wildhorse near the Braun Road entrance. She is about 12 pounds and is not wearing a collar; but is chipped and goes by the name "Molly." We are offering a $200 reward for her return, no questions asked.

If anyone can help bring her home, her brother misses her dearly as do all of us!

Thanks! M2

If somebody finds the dog and decides that it's finders keepers time, what if they take it to the vet? Do they normally scan for those chips and if they do is there some kind of a lost/stolen dog registry?

Normally the vet doesn't scan the chip unless there is a need/request to do so. Our two Westies have been chipped, and there are national registries such as Home Again that maintain a pet registry database and will alert clinics, animal shelters, and volunteer pet rescuer people and organizations within a 25-mile radius if your pet goes missing.

But unless there is a reason for a vet to scan the chip, it's not going to set off any alarms.

Wow that sucks. I kind of hoped that it was standard operating procedure whenever a pet is found, or goes in to a vet's office for their first visit. IMO it never hurts to double down on animal ID. Chip + tag with current contact info.

Man, I hope you find her - like others, I would have presumed that presenting the pet to a vet on a first visit would trigger a chip scan.....I seldom travel in that area, but if I find myself over there, be assured I'll be looking!

Good luck!!!!
