I have a buddy who moved there a couple years ago. He has invited me to come visit. I'm in Norfolk, VA (we have our own airport here). Would you recommend I fly into San Antonio? Do they have an airport there? Anybody have an idea on what a round trip flight may cost? I really am totally ignorant on flying and the costs to it.

I want to go to a Spurs game while I'm there so it looks like I'd probably go the weekend of Dec 10th. My plan is to probably fly out Friday morning and come back Monday some time.

Any suggestions/advice is appreciated. This will be my first trip west of the Mississippi.

First you need a Texas passport. Virginia is a southern state but in these parts you still need a passport for anyplace north of Arkansas.
San Antonio has it's own airport also. Boerne does not have a public airport. The stagecoach runs frequently between SA and Boerne.
In all seriousness, SA is the closest airport. Airfare is one of those things you need to go shopping and find a good fare. Southwest Airlines is usually the best price considering you do not pay for baggage.
Ask your buddy to get the Spurs tickets as soon as you know the dates you will travel to the nether world of South Texas.

Yes, he is joking!!!

All kidding aside I would suggest Southwest as they are still one of the competitive airlines and they do not charge for checked baggage... You will be flying into San Antonio as Boerne does not have it's own airport...

You are coming at a good time in Dec. as the Riverwalk will be lit up for Christmas and it makes for a very pretty view... After the game you and your friends can go and get a drink somewhere on the Riverwalk and enjoy the scenery...

I live apx 7miles from downtown Boerne... I think you will find it very charming, especially during Christmas... Main street is lit up and there are alot of antique and mom & pop shops that are pretty interesting...

I would suggest you check in with your friend often regarding the weather and what to pack... The weather here in Texas is very unpredictable... It does get apx 5-10 degrees colder in Boerne than it does in San Antonio... You should be fine with long sleeve shirts and regular jackets at night, but definately not parka weather... During the day I would not be surprised if it's warm enough for short sleeves, but then again, the very next day it could be turtleneck weather... So best bet is to check with your friend on the weather or keep tabs on it with the weather channel...

DM me if you have any more specific questions and enjoy your trip!!!

Errrr...you had better find the Texas Embassy nearest you and get your application in quickly!
And we flew to Norfolk in July for work and round-trip airfare was about $550. I am sure you can find flights for less, as we were on a government contract; but you will most likely have to fly through a hub (BWI, Chicago, etc) as I don't think there are any direct flights.

Have fun in Boerne, it's a great town and there's a lot of fun to be had there!

Just don't forget your passport, as the local police do check for it!

Cheers! M2

Try using Kayak, they will compare flight prices for you, but I'd go with Southwest personally. Seems like they are the only ones that haven't completely cramped the seats and they aren't charging for bags.

If you're going to see a spurs game, be sure to check out their ticket exchange. It's where season ticket holders sell their tickets to games they won't be going to. You can sometimes get some good deals on some great seats.
