Wow, and here I thought Halloween was a harmless holiday where kids (big and small) like to "trick-or-treat, wear costumes and attending costume parties, carve jack-o'-lanterns, take ghost tours, build bonfires, go apple bobbing, visit haunted attractions, commit harmless pranks, tell ghost stories or other frightening tales, and watch horror films."

No, wait, that's exactly what it is; and unless you practice pagan rituals on that night, you are no less a [insert religious preference here] than anyone else.

I've dressed up as Indiana Jones (2009), a gorilla (2008), a Geico Caveman (2007), and Captain Jack Sparrow (2006); none of which I would consider "pagan." Halloween may have origins tied to religion, but today it is largely a secular celebration and I find it sad that a few fun burglars are trying to be killjoys in what is mostly a innocent and playful holiday.

To answer the original poster's question: I know of several churches that are having Fall Fests, but the one that I know that is fairly close to you is Calvary Hills Baptist Church (1604 and Potrance, next to Academy).

Just as clear as your first comment "Who doesn't celebrate Halloween?"
or are you seriously going to tell me that you were expecting a list of names as an answer?

The pastor of the city's largest single church has publicly condemned the world depicted in the Harry Potter books. I assume that church doesn't do Halloween, either.

I used to do the church thing... and heard many a preacher profess of the evils of blindly following the evil one down a path to infinite damnation.

Tonight I'm swinging the sickle o' mayhem (removing some more of my lawn for a gardening project)! And I'm definitely not a pagan, polytheist or wiccan. But I am completely aware what the roots of this holiday are about... for both farmers AND witches. Just google Samhain, it will tell all.

This is a great time of the year to be thinking about letting bygones be bygones and forecasting expectations for the forthcoming year. This is where you choose to let something go or hold on to it for another 3 seasons. October is a time of pain and a time of healing... a true reality check. Many people contemplate things as the days shorten and the cooler temperatures enter. This is a good thing, and a pause before the bustle of the holidays.

It's a perfect time to reflect, and I hope everyone will take a moment or two to do that.

Um, no, I wasn't asking for a list of names. I was sort of wondering if it was a particular group or religion and why. That's all. I just never heard of anyone who didn't celebrate it. Because this is our first year with our kids going Trick-or-Treating, I wasn't even aware that anyone didn't. No need to be rude about it.

Well, aside from the fact that it really isn't a pagan holiday (though it used to be a Celtic festival to end summer, Halloween today is a far cry from it and in fact only really shares the time of year in common), I don't get it, but then I don't understand much about JW's other than they used to harass the crap out of us in our old neighborhood. And I do mean harass...
