My sister used to live in Oak Bluff, where they had trick-or-treat on Saturday night before Halloween, unless October 31 fell on a Friday (or Saturday). The idea was to keep the kids from staying up so late on a school night.

I would take my kids over to her neighborhood for an early TOT and she would bring her kids over to my neighborhood to TOT with us on the actual day of Halloween. So the kids were still up late on the school night!
