Burger Boy, Chesters and Chris Madrids are all home grown restaraunts here and are immensely popular locally. If you haven't tried one of these places then you are missing some local color. I'm so perplexed about your comments about "locals" because, like it or not, you are "one of us"!!!! WFF.......Chris Madrids is a dive on the outside, and in a fringy area, but has gotten many great write ups for their burgers. I don't have a clue to where they get their buns, but their biggest burger is huge! And not in the sense that it has 3-4 layers. It's like a dinner plate size......and then you can double that! Order one of those, then cut it up in to four equal sizes and you'd have the equivilent of four regular burgers. They also have awesome fries! Parking is crazy. It's an old house that has been added on several times and looks like a barn inside. The lack of ambience is part of the enjoyment! Don't go near lunch hour on weekdays....it's always packed. |

there was this great old drive-in place where they had great burgers, vanilla cokes, etc.
it's been many years since i've been there and i have since moved to houston what is it called and is it still there? all i can remember is it was a pretty old place and on weekends people would bring their classic cars and motorcycles up there. |

Jim's had great onion rings and cherry limeade!! Great memories from high school hanging out there! And yes, their burgers were great too! |

Hi wCat, I guess I meant "native Texans" not locals.
To other transplants: Chester's is a disappointment (seemingly no seasoning in their meat whatsoever). However, Chris Madrid's is GREAT (it pained me to put that in writing I would definitely get their beanburger. Now, note that the slab of cheddar cheese on it is a quintuple bypass waiting to happen, but it's really really good. And get a margarita while you're there. Unlike the chain restaurants, Chris Madrid's actually seems to put alcohol in their drinks. Highly recommended. |

wow no mention of EZ's yet? I love their burger's but you have to go to the one at Sunset Ridge, that is the best one.

Hello13685...you're going to have to do better than that! I'm not even a Native....and most likely more than half the city isn't. Defense/military being a huge part of the local population and economy, we have MANY transplants......and many who got transferred here, liked it and retired here. I'm dying to know how you pick us apart in a crowd.![]() |
