Good point, although FFW really went bankrupt and their stores ended up in the hands of what had to be the world's gimmickiest liquidators. Wonder if Lacks will use the same liquidator guy who dances on his commercials?

I remember when Lacks took over Jorries. I hated to see that long time San Antonio institution go away. I bought a lot of stuff at Jorries, but never bought from Lack's.

The one that was at San Pedro off of Rampart was always empty going back to the mid 90's. You would walk in and they had plenty of workers just no customers.

Me and my wife used to speculate that it was a front for cash laundering because no way it could stay in business without actual business.

Much of the furniture from Mexico that I have seen was actually hand crafted and while it might look rough around the edges it will outlast much of what is in many American homes.

I also think buying on credit is much more of an American thing that no one should really be proud of especially if you do not plan on paying it off by the end of the month. If one wishes though they can brag all they want about paying less interest over the long run lol

I'm not surprised about Lack's... They never adjusted to the down economy and had awful customer service. You could get the exact same item (same brand) at another store and Lack's wouldn't lower their prices... They just didn't know how to be competitive. Even Stowers and John Williams would allow you to haggle with them to make the sale.

All in all, it's 900 statewide jobs(most of those in San Antonio) on the line. And another local company out of business. Guess we can still shop at Rooms to go, Ashley, wal mart, target, etc. and send our money elsewhere

I prefer "Southern Canada" but to each their own.

It's kind of sad, though, wasn't Lacks a local family-owned and operated store?
